wonderful and timely. The find/replace does change ALL 6/ to 7/ so at 8:15 of video the date 6/6/2020 becomes 7/7/2020 (row 33 of data). So any interation of 6/ (i.e. 16/, 26/ 36, etc.. will change). Still this is just wonderful. Thank you.

I just finished writing on another channel that they had the easiest solution for this problem...but I think you do! We have a timesheet workbook for each employee with a tab for each 2 week pay period. Each tab list what they did, where they did it, how long it took to do it, and the date they did it. This all gets entered into another spreadsheet but we add it manually, one sheet at a time. This reduces that to one entry per person per year from 24 entries per person per year.

You are always my first goto when I need to know how to do something, or do something better, in Excel. Just as an FYI, when you did the replace on 6/, you also changed 6/6/2020, 6/16/2020, and similar numbers to 7/7/2020 and 7/17/2020. I know it was for testing purposes, but how would you prevent that from happening? I know how to do it in other contexts with regular expressions, but not in Excel.
@LeilaGharani Жыл бұрын
Thanks! True. It would have been a problem even with training data had I changed 9 to 10. If I wanted to use search and replace I'd probably a) replace /2020 with $2020 b) Replace 6/ with 7/ c) Replace $ with /

You can use Power Query from Excel 2016 onwards. You will have to use a workaround to load the data to a Pivot Table though. So, I recommend at least Office 2019 or ideally 365 for the latest features.

Leila - I just needed this, thank you. I have just started using it, and just in the start, I encountered an issue which was eating my brain :D. I typed "= Excel.CurrentWorkBook()" instead of "= Excel.CurrentWorkbook()", i.e. I wrote capital B in Book and Excel gave error. For few minutes, I couldn't fathom what's going wrong. Also, in my Excel, Excel didn't automatically start suggesting based on my typing, wondering why?

i need to express my gratitude. i am responsible for preparing our company's depreciation entries and fixed asset transactions ledger for month to date and year to date. i developed the model that prepares depreciation, macrs and gaap based, depending on the last month and the current month. it works really well and because its excel based, it makes for greater analysis. problem is that i'm responsible for all companies, rather than a set of books. so i work with multiple spreadsheets, analyze each, and then copy and paste into a single table. its ok when there is no deadline and the information flow is slow. today, i had to prepare monthly and year to date reports through April. the assignment was given yesterday and the deadline was today. i took the time yesterday renaming all the company tables with common leading text "FA_" i then built the query that creates the aggregate table from the tables named FA_. i then pivot tabled the aggregated table. all this from a refresh button. once i had rebuilt the queries. i began my analysis and completed all 4-monthly reports and year to date reports in 90-minutes! what i usually allow for 4 hours per month going through the analysis, copy and paste, and so on. just awesome.
