The16th installment of my 5000 mile solo road trip to the Balkans on board the mighty BMW R1250 GS Adventure.
In this episode, I'm definitely getting deported for social commentary. Comment "Wobblers" if you read this and like them.
Permission to Torque is a Mental Health movement set up to show others that you "get it" by displaying a discrete symbol for others to take comfort in. Its not about sitting around in a circle feeling sorry for yourself, its about shared experience and getting out there to find out what makes us happy - this is the aim of my trip and why I am sharing it on KZbin, the good days and the inevitable bad ones too.
I hope you enjoy the journey with me and find it at least vaguely useful! :)

The Srebrenica Genocide was the killing of over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys by Bosnian Serbs. The UN did indeed fail to protect the Bosniaks, in the sense that the massively outnumbered and lightly armed Dutch UN peacekeepers were unable to defend the safe zone from a premeditated attack by an overwhelming Serb force, which became the worst incident of ethnic cleansing since World War II. NATO, led by the US, eventually enforced peace and brought the war to an end. Many people were subsequently brought to trial for war crimes, including Slobodan Milošević, the Serbian President, also known as ‘The Butcher of the Balkans’. This was a brutal, complex conflict, which even now is poorly understood, as your commentary shows.

Had the same experience living in rural Spain as a kid, we would play out till 2-3AM on our own as 9-10 years olds and the local people would keep an eye on you, offer you food. Just like pure kindness, nothing bad ever happened there and everyone knew each other and looked out for each other. Wobblers.

I have a lot of love for the people of Čačak, they helped me and my wife out on a Sunday of all days when we had broken down on the highway. The city you passed by in the previous video of Užice is also a beautiful city. My wife is from Belgrade so we've spent a lot of time travelling around Serbia and some of its stunning scenery, I understand your time was quite limited here but Serbia has just as much to offer as Bosnia. Same could be said for many of the Balkan countries, it's a beautiful part of the world largely overlooked by many of us over in this part of the world.

I love the series Chris, but the amount of wrong assumptions about Serbia (and Bosnia a bit) to me is hilarious, honestly. :D Not a criticism in any way, I completely understand where it's coming from, it's just entertaining to me personally. For instance, the price of the hotel in Cacak. To you it's quite cheap, but to average and even above average Serb it's a fucking nightmare! :D Love your discovery process on this journey, and I wish you had spent more time in our beautiful country! Cheers!

It sure does seem the opposite as far as way of life compared to a metroplolis or somewhere like you descibed London where its all consumerism times a million and stuff. There it just looks like what it could be like if people were more self sufficient and stuff living off the land and things. Great video BVG. I was talking to my Dad about wanting to visit there and was told that its dangerous there still, I was like yeah but I ride a motorcycle and thats "dangerous" so lol.

Hey Chris, Very much enjoy your trip through your mental wellbeing & the Balkans as well ;-) Especially your journey through Bosnia Herzegovina was quite special and emotional to me. The last time I was there was in 1995. Yes, during those times you were talking about. I hear you ranting about that situation & the organisations and ... I mostly agree I'm afraid. However, most of the guys that were there to serve did that and sometimes more. We served under the UNPROFOR mandate, which stands for United Nations Protection Force. There was little to protect with the equipment and the rights we had. Fortunately I was part of a transport batallion so we we were indeed able to help a lot of people out during that winter. However the Dutch Infantry batallion (Dutchbat) in Sbrenica weren't that lucky, they had the duty to protect that enclave but were hardly equipped for it. All they could do was observe, monitor and inform the NATO about that dreadful situation so that intervention could be undertaken. Which Dutchbat did without receiving the air support they asked for. The leading generals decided against it because they didn't want to compromise the upcoming meetings with the battling Ethnicities, and therefore endangering the peace process which unfortunately lead to what we all know now... It's easy to judge from our armchairs but maybe fitting in this case, as those people were innocently killed, many soldiers that had to witness it died as well - if ' only' inside. Maybe not right at that moment, but on their return in their homecountry or years after, not aided by many 'backseat drivers' . This burden they will carry with them until the very end. Knowing that they wanted nothing more than to do their jobs but were unable to do so, as already mentioned. Anyway, just wanted you to know. Keep up the good work! P.s. I was enchanted to see 44teeth's latest video of Boothy on a bike, on the IOM. Now that's a TROOPER in my opinion

Well, the WHO's new "World Order" policies are now in writing, they dont even hide it anymore. The next 10 yrs are going to either be an enormous awakening or the downfall of all mankind as we know it. Base on the family i saw yesterday putting N95 masks on to enter the resort i work at tells me its going to be the downfall... Im pretty disappointed with humanity and I now see how past world atrocities were able to fester out of control, i thought having access to knowledge so easily would make that impossible its actually made it easier to do.

Chris is often checking to see if his damned GoPro is still recording. Try another brand.. Insta One or DJI. Too many issues and lost recordings with the recent GoPros. Otherwise use a mounted external monitor or phone to confirm recording and sound levels are okay. Motojitsu has resorted to doing that recently.

thank you for sharing your experience, it inspires to do something similar! But there is also some massive dissinformation about the events in Srebrenica. UN-Soldiers did not shoot a single Bosnian, Srebrenica was declared a safe zone were lots of Bosnian Muslims fled too and as you rightly said it was the only way left to go. The Problem was Srebrenica was not safe, there were way to few Blue Helmets, airforce support was not available because Serbians threatened to kill all hostages if there was any sort of air strike on their posts. When in April of '95 Serbian troops marched into Srebrenica, they demanded that men and women would be separeted, the UN-Officials where led to believe that the men would be put onto busses for deportation. Instead they were put onto the busses for their execution. The accusation against the UN is, how they could let this happen, what did they really know? And this is a very tricky question to answer for anyone other then the officials who were there. Imagine being one of those Un- officials surrounded by serbian troops who you know don't need a special invite to kill the lot of you.

My Yamaha XT broke down in Cacak, I left it in a first house with a totally unknown family to rest, went on a moto gathering as a pillion on my mate`s bike and returned in two days, got fed, greeted as a family member. Yes, Serbs and Serbia in general is a strange jewel where people of many nations still value tradition. Kids are walking alone at midnight after parties in the city, Universities are full, smiles on faces still exist, Hey we`ve been a playground for some big players for centuries, a dozen Roman emperors were born here, we endured, been on allied side always, made some mistakes ourselves, been naive or stupid. Survived under Turks for almost 500 years. As someone who travelled around the world and a US student, I guarantee that Serbia demands at least 30 days, Then you can change perspective on many life issues, and requestion. Not necessarily accept. So many crazy intimate unusual places to see, people to meet, history to discover, and heal and enrich a soul. Great video mate. Greetings from a biker.

I think much of this whole mental issues thing is just that it's hard and stressful to cope with how shit society has become. It really does feel like humanity as a whole is just out to fuck you over at every turn - from speed traps to ridiculous taxes to politicians and bureaucrats no longer being accountable for anything to work being shit and whatever else. And I also think that England is about as bad as it's gotten and it makes sense that you get saner as you put some distance between it and you. Also, Romanian t with the thing underneath is pronounced 'ts'. S with the thing is 'sh'. So it's Brushov, not Brusov.

Love the series, very entertaining. Nice to see that you enjoy the ex-Yugoslavian countries and seem to understand our way and perspective of life. Greetings from a Serb. P.S. Čačak is pronunced [cha-chak], ch like chicken...just for your information :) and yes we really did get f*cked by NATO in '99 without the UN's approval

Excellent video series. I really wish that I had used motorcycle therapy when I was younger instead of bottling things up. I would love to see the entire route on a map as I may use about 60% of it for a trip in 2024. Keep your spirits up and the rear tire down!

Wobblers!! Another great episode. What a brilliant trip you're having. Interested to see if you push on to Turkey, then who knows where :) Stay in that happy place. Cheers.

This really struck a cord with me. I work abroad a lot and i have noticed the exact same thing when it comes to people/familes eating out, drinking in restaurant's etc through the week. Ive noticed it all over mainland Europe, but mainly Eastern. Places like Hungary, Bulgaria and Czech. I think its brilliant. Meanwhile back in my lovely home town of Bolton, you'll be lucky if you see someone who isnt a tramp or a crackhead past 6pm in the town centre. We could definitely learn a lot from the Eastern Europeans.

Mate, what you could do with the screwed audio is just use that footage, but do a "live" voice over. This way you can still use the footage and give us a kind of "behind the scene" experience.
