I was listening to Chris speak about the older 1150 GS and all of it resonated true with my 1200S Multistrada as well. Its got that rough lumpy bumpiness, raw aggression and just that hint of imperfection that makes it ever so special an experience every time one is on the saddle. Looking to pick up the 1300 GS next year but I’ll still love my imperfect, old school 1200S MTS to bits.

Chris does the best reviews, amazing how much insight to the real use cases he presents as opposed to waisting time with specs. Incredible and informative on the suspension, thank you. And best rider to watch on any bike. Maybe that credit has to be shared with your cameraman. Chers awesome. On the fence was waiting for this bike, after watching your review on Ducati V4 ralley, I am confused. I love riding my Duc 950mts and offroad with it. Just finished 14 days with Trophy 1300GS in Asturias Spain, with my wife on the back. The new GS 1300 felt boring but brilliant. But the engine in my Ducati talks to me. I didn't get that from the new 1300GS, but the heat and chain maintenance from my Duc950mts is saying no to $30k V4 Multi and maybe time for GS1300. Either bike is a costly upgrade.

@DariuszGąsiorowski-t8u Жыл бұрын
Chris this is the best review published so far. What a premise at the very beginning: bmw made it better but have they lost the character? And then solid analysis of how the bike behaves in different circumstances. I especially like your focus on adjustable spring rate. This is a first and it seemed to be a breakthrough. As you pointed out it’s responsible for so many good things in terms of handling on this bike. Thank you.

The engine performance and, the handling details and nuances that other reviewers miss (or are simply unaware of), makes this review (and Chris) a standout. Anyone with a performance or technical bent to what they want from the new GS (or any new bike) should watch his reviews. As a current 1250 owner I can't wait to try the new 1300. I have high expectations that, at least for me, the new GS will be everything I wanted my old bike to be while keeping most everything that I liked about it. If the 1300 lives up to my expectations I might be tempted to live with several less bikes in my garage. 😄

Agreed, but totally irrelevant for 99.9% of riders. I thought we'd moved away from journalists thinking they were MotoGP riders, they took us down the 200BHP sports bike route always going on about power when it's irrelevant on the road. Thankfully the GS arrived and for most riders quicker on the road than a sportsbike! Taking a GS offroad is pretty futile for most riders, they are too big and heavy except for an elite few. Get a 300 - 450 single for off roading and actually enjoy it.

I really appreciate the expert, rider’s perspective details of how the bike is set up and how it performs, regarding the new front and rear suspension configurations, the throttle mapping in the various modes, and the increased differences among the models. It was really quite apt, and fun, to see snippets from Chris’s review of the 2017 R1200GS Rallye. The jumps and skids in this video are very reminiscent of those from years ago, and even the end of day caked dirt looks familiar. I bought that bike back then, based largely on Chris’s review. The new bike seems like the mechanical equivalent of a thirty-something former college athlete who got his or her first “real job,” has worked in offices for years, and has watched their middle increase and their fitness decline. With a determined and sustained effort, they lose the flab and become lean and athletic and full of energy again. The R1300GS is the trimmed down, more taught, more focused kernel of what was hiding inside the R1250GS. Now, for more fun, compare this with Chris’s Bike World review of the Multistrada V4 Rally. Hmm, a real conundrum.

13:20 that's the first time some mentioned this and actually described what this does, and assumng this is accurate, that's INSANELY HUGE. Spring rate is the bane of suspension, it's inability to change is what makes harsh bikes harsh and soft bike wallowy. Something that can be controlled on the fly means it's 100% right in every situation. No more worries about rocker rations, motion ratios, progressive springs, because it's all controllable electronically.

I find it so interesting that many people refer to "character" (bike) when they talk about clunkiness and all areas that require improvements. BMW, and other manufacturers, have been improving their products. That doesn't mean those products are losing "character", it means they are becoming more mature and better.
