Nice thanks. Do you know of something similar for the iPad?
@ConstantGeekery5 ай бұрын
The iPad does it out of the box. Settings > Control Center > add Screen Recording. Now swipe down from top right and there will be a screen record option. By default this will record system audio. If you want microphone, long press on the record button, and you’ll see an option to turn the microphone on.

Thank you! I've wanted this for SO LONG! Something so simple should be integrated into macOS like it is on iPadOS/iOS

You are a life saver! So straight forward and easy! I tried OBS but the quality was bad no matter what I did and I wanted to keep using quick player, so this definitely made my recording life so much easier. Thank you so much!

Same to me, OBS quality is really bad

you have no idea how much this helped appreciate it way better than obs.

Very nice tip. I was already using Blackhole to redirect the audio when recording the screen. The routing of audio with the Midi setup app to combine different sources is an added bonus. Merci beaucoup !

This is a lot more effort than I want to go through when I want to put out a quick video. I do wish that Apple would provide a native solution to this problem but I imagine that there would be the issue of mixing the audio. For now, I just live with the sound from the Mac going back in via the microphone. It's not a great solution but good enough for what I do at this time. If I need better quality, then I would need to look into a solution like this.
@ConstantGeekery5 ай бұрын
You only have to set it up once. After that, it takes exactly the same amount of time as using the microphone only.
@artysanmobile5 ай бұрын
@movdqa. It only looks like a lot of effort, requiring a very simple setup just once for each different solution you think up. Screen recording mixed audio is one solution. “Aggregate” is software engineer tone-deafness for “combined”. Its part of the language used by every Apple device, even your phone, called Core Audio. AudioMidi is a control panel to choose what elements of Core Audio you need for your purpose. 3rd party apps - Zoom, Cubase - use Core Audio without making us learn its language, just calling them inputs, outputs, etc. The ability to make and remember custom mixers is AudioMidi’s Native superpower. That mixer can be 3 inputs x 2 outputs as in this case or hundreds for professional applications. Here, you are combining stereo “internal” audio - the Mac’s default sound - with a mono signal - the microphone on your Mac. The mix of those is assigned to be recorded, and it’s as simple as that. It’s a three fader Mackie mixer that records its output, if that helps. You only need to understand it and it will very much be “Native.“ Computers still need to be told what to do. 😊 It’s unfortunate that SW engineers feel the need to customize the language, confusing many users.

Just follow along with the steps in the video. Hit the space bar to pause the video, then do what he does with a few clicks of the mouse. Literally 2-7 minutes later you're set for life.

@hiruniliyanage98Ай бұрын
u have to first set the normal volume to a preferable volume. because u cant change (Go to sound -> output and change to your speaker and change the volume and then again select Blackhole output)

My voice recording was recorded to either left or right channel, the same as the screen audio. Is there a way to fix it. Thanks in advance
@ConstantGeekery12 күн бұрын
If you open Audio MIDI Setup (Utilities folder, or use Spotlight to search for it), then select your aggregate/multi-input virtual device on the left. In the grey block under "Subdevices" will be listed Blackhole 2ch, and your Mac's microphone. If the microphone is on the right, click and drag it to the left of the Blackhole 2ch box. Give that a try and let me know if it works.

Then I'd imagine you'd have bigger problems using your computer than starting a screen recording... but you can just open Quicktime Player and launch a screen recording from there.

@ConstantGeekery5 ай бұрын
I do use OBS for some things. It is great 👍🏻
@Johnnygoto3 ай бұрын
The only problem with this method is that your voice recording will be recorded to either left or right channel the same as the screen audio. So in the end I hear myself speaking from the left speaker and the screen audio from the right.
@ConstantGeekery3 ай бұрын
Screen audio should remain in stereo. I think there is a way to route the microphone to both speakers, but I'll need to play with that. You can convert the clip to mono in a video editor and that should centralise the voice.
