There are a multitude of ways to make pastel de papa. This particular recipe is Zone friendly.
"(It's) kind of like a shepherd's pie with sweet potatoes," explains chef Nick Massie. "If I had one meal to choose as far as (a) make-ahead meal, this would be it."
The ingredients include ground beef, hard-boiled eggs, raisins, crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, sliced green olives, Italian seasoning, sweet-potato purée, onion and olive oil.
He begins with olive oil in a cast-iron pot, adding garlic to brown before throwing in onions, salt and pepper. Next, it's time to add beef seasoned with salt and pepper, and he breaks up the meat as it cooks.
When the beef is cooked about medium well, he tosses in the Italian seasoning, continuing to break up the meat. The tomatoes, raisins and green olives follow. Eggs are the last addition.
"Fold 'em gently. Don't really want to be mixin' it a ton after those go in," says Massie, who runs PaleoNick.com.

Seems like a good recipe. I'm wondering if you can add a bit more flavor profile (if you have time) by baking the sweet potatoes and letting them caramelize. You can then puree them and get a better developed flavor as the topping. Thanks for the video!

Cranberries or just omit them and add cinnamin & sugar (be sure to use equal amount in carbs or add more sweet patatoe).

The only thing not right here: do NOT put the hot or warm mixture in the fridge to cool down!! That would cause the fridge's motor to run too hard. Simply cool the portions at room temperature and then pop 'em in the freezer. Simple enough. Thanks for a great recipe!
@tthemonkey8420
@tthemonkey8420 7 жыл бұрын
Eriq Koontz we are not in the 80's anymore. The motor will do fine. If you let it cool in room temp you run the risk of having it gone bad because of bacteria growth. The sooner you put it under low temp the better.

The Zone is a diet plan that allows you to divide your food into portion sizes based off of what nutritional value they have. The wikipedia page: Zone Diet, explains the concept very well.

Adam Eggertsen that makes sense. forgot they were a fat block. I would just add more olive oil. (I don't stick to strictly to the zone blocks)

im no paleo expert but onions and canned tomatoes?
@arstxz319
@arstxz319 10 жыл бұрын
onions grow in the ground so their allowed on a paleo diet. The canned tomatoes are a little iffy but just make things a lot easier, just check the ingredient lists on canned tomatoes and stuff like that if you recognize all the ingredients then you're good to go. It's just someone else doing the crushing and portioning for you really.

Mathew Arseneau i was always led to believe that ideally paleo or any good diet is a raw diet, while cooking is acceptable, the food should be edible in it's raw state. who eats raw onions? also onions are toxic, yea they add a nice flavor profile but offer nothing nutritionally. (theyre good for blood circulation but i doubt crossfitters are lacking in that dept.) and of course we all know old, cooked, processed, prepacked, ect.. food looses a crap ton of vitamins and minerals. for example berries refrigerated looses 80 percent of it's anti oxidants, quinoa cooked losses 66-75 percent of it's protein content, cooking destroys amino acids such as glutamine. so imagine what one could possibly be getting from canned tomatoes beside bpa. also there was no mention of grass fed beef here(important staple of paleo) or organic. u want messed up hormones and low t, eat conventional foods. i understand one cooking demo cant cover every base and most ppl dont care all that much, but if theyre willing to bust their asses in the gym for results then why not be more aware in other areas of the spectrum which are more vital in overall health. most ppl probably over train and "under-recover" cuz of what they do or dont do outside the gym. food is fuel for performance why not give it the best you can. eating right can require more dicipline than training hard, most ppl know to try and stay away from the cake and soda but theres more to it than that. god bless

Demus really ? ok well besides sushi... www.bonappetit.com/trends/article/15-raw-meat-dishes-from-around-the-world just because it's not common doesnt make it wrong or bad. like all foods raw meat is alot more nutritious than cooked. most ppl and all professional chefs like their meats rare or raw in the middle beside taste the main problem is with the quality of conventional meat most consumers will buy, its cheap garbage full of antibiotics, hormones, treated with chemicals, fed gmo garbage, contains an unhealthy unbalanced fatty acid profile, (causing inflammation which is the root to all disease and illness),while living in an unnatural disgusting environment it's whole life, not suitable to be consumed by any living creature on this earth. yea i would cook that type of meat. on the other hand good meat is fine eaten raw, if one can stomach it. raw meat fits perfectly fine in the paleo diet. your logic is similar to mathew's "onions grow in the ground so they're allowed..." well wheat does also but thats obviously not apart of paleo.

Kyle bird Good luck eating raw poultry. Most raw meat are either prepared fish or beef dishes, do you really think "cavemen" didn't cook their meat? A bit over the top you think?

Alan, you can find good meat in USA too. I live in Brasil and totally agree with you regarding the very good quality meat you have in most of the neighborhood markets in Argentina. In USA you just have to put some work to find organic or grass feed meat but it is doable.
