"Many Hands Make Light Work!" Glad you and Cathy are hosting visitors who are more than willing to 'Lend a Hand'. Let's see...., using the FFF system, 'Furlong-Firkin-Fortnight', I predict Kelly's Station will be a Fort in just a few Fortnights if the walls don't run too many Furlongs, and if and only if, the Firkins are filled with water and not 'Spirits of John Barleycorn'! lol Cheers to you both, and remember to lift with your legs, not with your back.

WHAT a team of 'good and hard working' people you've befriended at the 'Kelly' compound. If you continue to attract the like and they become as part of a community...you will be well provided for and I think...quite happy. Is this perhaps the reason behind all your hard work Peter? A Fort is kind-of-a lonely place for 'just two. Lovely film work Empress Catherine. And that Sue is suuuure good at stew! Had me licking my chops from afar and I'll just bet there were 'no leftovers'! LOL! On fencing..."Don't ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up." (G.K. Chesterton). Thanks 4 sharing dear ones! Health and Blessings! :) P.S. Imagine streams you could walk over for 'fish', rather than from 'pollution' = Those were the days!

Fighting forces need a fully belly and so do our army of fort builders! My grandmother would layer the bottom of her Dutch oven with bacon then onions, then potatoes, then fish with a little sprinkling of red pepper flakes. Then again with onions, potatoes, and fish until it was full. She would add water, cover it up and slide it to the back of the stove. Low and slow, the cover wasn't touched for at LEAST 2 hours then you didn't dare stir it, just sample the top layer to see if it was done. She didn't allow stirring because some times a fish or two would be small and have the bones still in. She could remove almost every darned bone if everyone just left it alone.

What is it about food, any food cooked on an open fire, that makes it better. Closest I ever got to fish stew was fish head soup. I had a much older cousin, deadly with a two pronged gig, who when he ate fish, he ate fish. He'd clean and scale the heads. He'd boil them with liberal dose of salt and pepper, until they fell apart, clean out the bones. With fried fish and fried potatoes we'd fill a cup full of fish head soup and corn bread and set to on the fried fish and potatoes. The way I remember it, it wasn't bad. I used to like crappie, bass, or any fish caught from the little clear running creek known as The Barren Fork of the Illinois in my part of the Ozarks in Oklahoma.

in 1788, when John Mays and his flat boat full of travellers encamped along the Ohio River on their travels, They would sleep on their large flat boat and put the animals out to graze at night. One of John Mays biggest complaints was his lack of sleep from the extrordinary amount of fish in the Ohio River bumping against the bottom of the boat all night making noise. Unfortunately, it was common for Indians like the Shawnee and Delaware to attacks flat boats travelling down the Ohio River. When John Mays stood up to wave a white flag to stop the attack on the flat boat, John Mays was shot through the head and died instantly.
