Construction Of a 3 Bedroom Dream Home In Jamaica

Construction of a 3 bedroom house in Jamaica. Today I am doing a house tour of one of my designs. The house is being built in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. The house consists of 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, large living space all open concept with outdoor living space. Construction began in the early part of 2023. A Jamaican home construction mainly consist of concrete blocks, steel reinforcement bars, cement, timber and metal roofing. Reasons I love this design - No arches, single level design, takes advantage of the view. One change I would make (I always make changes), is that the family room is not visible or immediately accessible from the kitchen. I would create at least a pass-through, which is basically a window between the kitchen and family room. This would be about 4 feet wide, maybe 3 feet tall. The bottom of the window would be at standard bar height (46"), so it can have a kind of shelf/bar surface sticking out into the family room with maybe three bar stools. Just my 2 cents!

Thank you for the comments, but there will be a large 4X8 island between the kitchen and the dining room, which will offer enough room for dining. No one will be eating in the family room. I also like to be alone in my kitchen whenever I am cooking and really don't need to know what's going on in the family room.

Same here I don't want open floorplan with kitchen unless it's the self contained unit on the side of the main house. I like people to not be underfoot in the kitchen and stay out of my way so I can move and get stuff done.​@@NoTolerance-m5f

Those are actually concrete gutters with a 2-inch downspout in each column. The downspouts will be connected to the rainwater collection tank later.

We do have oval shape windows, which makes your house look different from others. Most people choose white windows , why not black , it makes the house look more elegance.

This is strictly a vacation home and will probably never be fully occupied. I also don't believe in making my guests too comfortable that they don't want to leave.

The total square footage, including the porches and the garage is 3,939 Sq Ft. Total cost for material and labor up to the point of the videos and photos was $70,000 USD or just over $10 mil JMD.

Approximately $400,000 USD. The amount of time to build is dependent upon the number of workers and their skill levels (fast or slow).

For a home of this magnitude the layout functionalities are extremely poor. For one, after grocery shopping it will be a long haul down the hallway to the kitchen. 🤔
