That is a Silo, part of the Strategic Food Reserve. We have one in Nairobi as well. The Government does not release any data on the SFR, so we cannot ascertain if these Silos are full or empty, however when President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta initiated these Silos, it was an issue of National Food Security, then when Moi came to power, it was total mismanaged, with institutional collapse of key Agricultural bodies like the KFA, KGGCU and NCPB, which were managed by incompetent illiterate Nyayo henchmen. Kenya was at par with South Korea in 1978, and then we suffered serious economic decline under Moi. I left Kenya in 1984, moved to the US, and haven't looked back since. You young kids, voted Kenya Kwanza into power again. You have no historical recollection that these Kalenjins desroyed the Kenyan economy. Anyways, I am sure you can see what a lovely job they are doing. Driving the economy to its knees once again. I hope you get it right, and vote for a Government that has a track record of growing the economy, not shinking it. All the best!!

What have YOU done about it Mr. Patrioti?

@@Bernadette_c I am not a liability to my country. I send home to my motherland thousands of dollars each year. My only disappointment is those the diaspora is trying to help keep electing thieves and conmen. Today the Kenya Government says that the diaspora is sending $3 billion annually and they want us to sent even more. I think we’ve done our part. You really can’t ask the diaspora to do any more. It’s 8:30 am on the East Coast. I reported to work at 4am. Heading up the East Coast to Hartford CT. I left Pompano Beach, FL yesterday. After this trip, I am heading Up state New York to Ft Drum, NY picking up a military shipment heading to Twenty Nine Palms, CA. We are constantly working in the trenches of North America 🇺🇸 How does Ruto want us to do more? This is someone who is clueless about the difficult lives we live in the diaspora.

@@Bernadette_c with the extensively corrupt and brainwashed society Kenya thrives in, one has nothing much to do about it but educate and inform future generations about the dangers and repercussions of electing bad leaders, hoping they'll do better decision making for a better prosperous future.

There was a serious hunger in Kenya after a long drought. The Japanese advised Moi that the solution to fight hunger was to invest in food storage. The Japanese built the silos for food storage. They were built in several towns including Nairobi Mombasa Kisumu Eldoret Kitale etc.. this is a very simple structure don’t get too shocked…Those who told you a tall building is not possible are the ones who misled you. You must be very ignorant. Go to Dubai and you will realize this building is nothing.

Cool investigation into the landmark silos.. Perhaps KFA can throw some light on this....

It was built by a construction called conoiike, i actually dont recall if it was from Israel or where, also ndio walichimba mitaro za kenya pipelines, in 1970s enzi za jomo jo. By then the tallest buiding in nakuru was KFA offices and the geolagical was that no building should ever go beyond 4 stories in nakuru ever, so we are responsible of sinking our beloved nakuru.

That looks like a typical grain silo. If you look up the explosion that happened in Lebanon some years ago, you will see there was a silo nearby. It got damaged but mostly remained standing. It was surprising it didn't flatten. But given that it has to hold tonnes of grain it has to be built tough. What I find surprising is its location. Is this a grain producing area? We import grain so ours is at a port (as was the ones in Lebanon). And the mill isn't too far away from it. It isn't effective to transport so much grain very far just to store it or to process it so everything needs to be close by. If there is no mill nearby - then why this location?

Nakuru is at the floor of the Rift Valley. Incase of an Earthquake with it's epicenter around the Kenyan rift, this structure stands no chance.
