if f/2.8 is not your favorite setting, the Panasonic 20 -> 60 is a very handy lens for the Leica SL2. It covers a very practical range if focal lengths, is very light and quite sharp.

Just ordered one for my S5 Mk2. Sold the 20-60 kit lens for it. Can’t wait to use it. Just hoping the lack of proper dust sealing won’t end up in dust in lens or on sensor. 🤞

It really seems to be a perfect all-rounder, especially given the price and size / portability. Excellent, quick review with a bit of desert ambiance thrown in. Might be just the thing for an upcoming trip to Asia, as I really don't want to lug around the Sigma 85 mm, beautiful results aside. Final point: I know you're passionate about the cacti and desert landscapes, but I feel it offers a limited range of colors and forms to showcase camera equipment, especially for people who live (primarily) in the city, suburbs, etc. Just a thought, but maybe moot now as I have seen you do other city work. Much appreciated. Keep up the great work.

How does it compare to the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8? The Tamron lens has better weather sealing? Thanks.
@WunjoxFlo
@WunjoxFlo 3 жыл бұрын
The Tamron is less sharp overall, heavier but has way better weather sealing. The Sigma only has a rubber gasket an the mount. The lense itself isn't protected. The Tamron is sealed on multiple points

I'd love to see how this lens performs on the SL2-S or a Sony with a sensor with fewer megapixels. Sometimes hard to tell if what I am seeing is the the high megapixel sensor or the lens....or, of course, both.

Hi, did you only got this lens for review as in lent by Sigma or you have it in your kit (now)? In case of latter, how is your experience of the lens and its results? There is some complaint that the images are skewed and they have to be corrected. Plus, corners are said to be soft when the lens is zoomed. I have got Sigma 16mm f/1.4 APS-C for Sony E-mount and it is a very good lens. Likewise, their 20mm f/1.4 though too heavy. Thank you.

I'm very intrigued by your comment about the minimum focusing distance being 2.8", as the press release quotes 19-38 cm or 7.5-15". I'm considering the 28-70 mm with the 24-70 mm and it's coming down to the minimum focusing distance.
@LeighAndRaymond
@LeighAndRaymond 3 жыл бұрын
I misspoke - 2.8" is the "working" distance, which means the distance from the end of the lens. The minimum focusing distance is from the focal plane inside the camera and is indeed 7.5". :)
@arambaali
@arambaali 3 жыл бұрын
@@LeighAndRaymond Thank you for the explanation, I didn't know that before. I have always assumed the minimum focusing distance is measured from the last glass element.

Hi Leigh. Thanks for the video. I also have the SL2 and I have been lucky to have had a QP for a couple of years. I’m spoiled by the image quality from QP. To your eye how does the sigma iq compare to your 24-90? Would you feel confident leaving the elmarit at home just using the sigma. Thank you! I hope you have time to reply. Mark

I did leave the Leica 24-90mm at home and took the Sigma 28-70 on this hike! The 24-90 has a place in my L mount collection but when I prefer a smaller/lighter setup, I'd leave it at home and take this 28-70mm without a second thought.

Great video. I was wondering how this compares with the Panasonic 24-105 f4 which spend a lot of time on my original SL. However the IQ is oddly inconsistent, basically not the all rounder I hoped for.

hey leigh, how, does it compare to the Leica 24-90? recently, i've been enticed to consider selling my Leica 24-90 and replace it with this Sigma 28-70, since I use the Sigma 85 1.4, really don't need the reach the 24-90 gives me at f4. have you had the chance to compare the two? the 24-90 is probably one of the most extraordinary zoom lenses i've ever used but it's big, heavy, and honestly, the 90mm focal length is really not that useful for me at F4 (i shoot a ton in low light). i'd rather just pop on the 85. anyway, thank you for your time and thoughts!

Hi, love your channel. Am new to photography and in the look for a camera and lens that can give me a good start in the photography world. Been taking photos with my phone and its been fun but i started to see the advantage of having a camera after spending 15 days with my brother's camera in the summer. I love landscape photography and Street photography, it's just amazing going for a walk in the city or in the woods and taking pictures along the way. I was planning to get the panasonic lumix S5 and a lens. Do you think that this lens with the panasonic lumix S5 is a good start. Keep up the amazing work

I always enjoy watching your videos. Nice lens..but from my perspective it doesn’t have the robustness of color and 3D depth my Leica 24-90 has. Weight and close focus are definitely a plus. So my bottom line is...I’ll keep my gym membership, stay in touch with my chiropractor and continue to haul around the heavy weight of lenses. My Leica 24-90.

I had e-mount version of it and found it has heavy vignetting and this lens was unusable for videos due to this reason. While it is easy to correct it in Lightroom for stills, it is much harder to do that for videos.

That’s fair reason to sell it on, but that’s the trade off for the smaller size. I don’t consider it’s slight imperfections as a negative against it because it’s the compromises made to make it so small and seeing as Sigma has the 24-70mm which is much more comprehensive, which I own and absolutely love. Now I’m picking this up as a more walk around lens and a b cam lens or second shooter lens because the 24-70 is massive for what it is

The Sigma 24 for Sony and Leica is perhaps a sharp lens, still f/3.5 is a strange aperture for a prime. Tamron have 20, 24 and 35 f/2.8, 3.5 is Even more strange

I did use the Tamron last year (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJe8eZlvlJ2XaM0). It's also a good lens, but only available for E mount. Also, this Sigma lens is a bit shorter and lighter. It's not a large difference if you're just looking at the numbers, but it did seem to make a larger difference in how easy the lens was to carry on the camera when it was hanging around my neck.
