Dall-E, Stable Diffusion and Midjourney are just the beginning. Text to image generation has drastically improved over the last year and it's time to peak into text to video generation next. We cover the fear of artists being replaced by machines as well as the opportunities that arise for content creators through AI technology.

Very well put video! This is exactly what I feel like when I think about AI. Last year when I read the 21 Lessons for the 21st Century by Harari I felt like he is talking about the far future but this month when I tried out the Dall-E 2 my mind was fucked. If any Internet user can create digital art with free commercial use like that, there's no way media agencies will pay for artists in the future. And I totally agree with you that the only way forward is not going against AI but working with it.

Couple of thoughts on this: 1) I totally agree about the mindfuck moment. It hits different when you try it yourself. You see other peoples experiments and be like "oh cool, interesting", then you try it yourself and it's like "WHAAAT?!" literally started laughing out of amazement. 2) I think there will always be some form of man-machine interaction. Take AI as a starting point, but the human to really narrow down what exactly you want. It's almost impossible to envision an exact picture in your head and then try to create it via AI prompts. It works way better the other way around - let the AI generate ideas and you work from there.

As hopeful as I try to be, I believe the world of deep fakes and AI-generated art and AI-generated voices is an incredibly dangerous one and I do not welcome it. Yes, I realise that's a thing the first guy to die in a Sci-Fi movie would say, but I stand by it. Unregulated AI technology of this caliber will be the death of us.

Very good point. I‘d say it‘s a revelation for creatives, but if it‘s a net positive for society is yet to be seen. There are certainly a variety of dystopian scenarios.

In a few years there will be probably such a vast amount of content out there that it becomes more and more depentend on pure coincidence that you stumble across content that you actually care about and genuinely like. We then need another AI to search for content that's specifically tailored to our needs. 😄

"just beating humans at chess" triggered me a little. Computers were beating us since 1997 and it was nothing special, but since 2017 neural nets play chess with so much creativity, and they have such deep understanding of the game, that we are just in awe. It plays chess like an advanced civilization from another planet. AI often finds repudiation in chess puzzles and finds better moves in games from the past which are considered "work of art." AI didn't just beat humans at chess but also it crushed the best brute force chess engines which have some serious hardware. And the way it beat them was just embarrassing. Even top 100 human players seem to be learning new, "simple" strategies which they were unware of before. Anand, a 5 time world champion, retired from chess about 10 years ago, and last year he came back playing better than he ever did. In his old age he's learned new tricks probably thanks to AI. That's unheard of in any sport.

My issue with Stable-Diffusion-based text-to-image AI (which includes MidJourney and Lensa) is that the LAOIN database they are trained on contain a lot of copyrighted art. It’s especially bad that they are making profit off of it. Artists are not getting compensated. In my opinion it is theft. It might be barely technically legal due to current loopholes in copyright law. Each step in the development of the AI models is legal but altogether it should not be considered legal. I think it’s really important that artists at least be able to opt-out of their copyrighted art being used to train the models.

democratizing creator tools leads to a tsunami of very low quality shit, not to a golden age sadly

Quality only increases with democratization. Quality is not proportional to scarcity. Power hungry superficial exclusivists will be swept away by the tsunami of creativity to make way for the new generation.
