I learned at the Guiness museum and read some article on the fact that Guiness has different recipes to match the taste profile of the market. Plus freshness matter in beer and so does the management of tap systems and how it’s poured. So while I agree Guiness in Ireland may not be “better,” it’s a different recipe, served fresher by people who take national pride in the care and service of it and drank by everyone so the flip kegs faster. Of course setting and context matters and that difference would be a lot less if we were to blind taste test an American Sports bar Guiness alongside an Irish pub Guiness in a blank white room. But with what I know about Guiness and restaurant keg management, I’d have to disagree that they’d be the same.

Context and memory are everything. It's the human tendency of romance. One of my favorite Whiskey memories is burning through a bottle of Ancient Age with a few friends talking Freud and Jung until 6am. Ancient Age is terrible and the event was almost 20 years ago, but at the time, it was one of the best bottles I've ever shared.

The best guinness was in an irish pub in galway ireland when ireland won a soccer match against england. Magical and unforgettable. The happiness in the streets was beautiful to witness. Context really does matter.

I had a similar experience with context making a huge difference. A year ago I had a couple friends from high school over to my apartment and I cooked dinner. After we ate, I asked them if they minded if I poured myself some whiskey (one doesn't drink and the other can't have alcohol). They told me they didn't mind and it was my apartment so I could do whatever I wanted. I had my drink and we were taking and having a great time. That was one of the best pours I've ever had because I was drinking with my friends, even if they weren't drinking themselves. Context can make a huge difference when it comes to an experience! 🥃

Of all the standard Single Pot Still whiskies coming out of Midleton, this one is my favourite. MVR Barry Crockett Legacy is probably my overall favourite, but it's also about five times the price of this. Also, I'm fairly certain that this started as an Ireland exclusive, but is now available in the US.

I’ve been wanting this Jameson pot still but I can’t get it. Hoping I can when I go fly a few places next year. I love when a whiskey is effervescent and sparkles in my mouth. I've had a shot of Jameson SPS when they were doing a marketing tour, and I was told that it was a somewhat limited release, but it was hard to find in stores at the time when they were here in town. But I bought some a couple of months ago that were the January 2023 batch, so it was definitely available in retail here in Ontario, Canada. It's hard to go wrong with a Jameson, but I've yet to try the IPA edition of the Caskmate brand.

But next on the shoping list is the Jameson single pot still. Daniel, you said, that it is too sweet for your taste. I love too sweet whisky. As an Irishman I have to say your wrong about the Guinness whats in the keg may be the same but the way the lines are routed and cared for and the way its poured make an ENOURMOUS difference, you can get different Guinness from one pub to another in Ireland nevermind abroad.

Guinness can vary from pub to pub in Dublin, never mind from country to country. And it can also vary in the same pub from time of day. There's dozens of factors that influence this. My dad won't drink a Guinness in our local unless he sees at least 5 other people drinking it, this ensures 'good flow' in the taps. I don't like to drink it unless 1 particular barman is working as his pour is slightly different. Guinness themselves say they have different recipes for different parts of the world. The Guinness that is brewed in Ireland doesn't travel well, so the line that you disagree with 'theres no Guinness like the Guinness in Ireland' is absolutely correct and we pride ourselves on it 👍🏻👍🏻

The only thing that would be different is the water used in that location which would impact the flavor slightly. They’ve probably considered this and have a specific process to purify and add whatever minerals needed to replicate the water in Dublin.

Blending in unpredictable. Until I added a little lemon juice to my tomato juice I would have never believed that two acids could cancel out the tart taste but it absolutely does. Of course too much makes it taste lemony but there is a neutral blend where you can taste the purity of the tomato juice. Try to avoid canned juice because nothing can cover that metallic taste.

Guinness in Ireland is better because you're in Ireland. Why is it better because you're in Ireland? Because, for the vast majority of the world, it's because you're on vacation.
@horacephistbump2 ай бұрын
Guinness is better in Ireland. Nothing to do with "atmosphere" or "environment". It's brewed fresh and the pubs know how to serve it. Fundamentally the further from Ireland, the worse it gets. When you get into Africa they have African Guinness, which is class - but a different product.
