I'm so glad you loved the Ninth Rain Trilogy! I had the same reaction at the end. I cried a few times in the last 100 pages or so. I read them last year back to back and I never do that. The more time that passes the more I love it. I can't wait to re-read them. They are so unique and unlike anything I've ever read. It would be great if you and Petrik did a spoiler discussion of the series! I wish more people would read them. I want to watch more people love on the series. It brings me such joy. This was probably my most anticipated video from you ever! Re: Valor, I’m bummed you didn’t enjoy it, but happy you DNFed when you knew you needed to. With Bitter Twins, I was really frustrated with the first 400 pages, and realized it’s because the characters were all in conflict with each other and it just was really putting me off. But those last 200 pages…wow! I’m excited for The Poison Song (but after I finish Of Blood and Bone 😅).

I couldn’t finish Malice. It took me a month to get through the first 300 pages, and I eventually just gave up on it. It felt like it needed quite a lot of editing and I didn’t feel attached to the characters whatsoever. I think I counted over 60 characters introduced in the first 50 pages (with similar names) and that kind of put me off.

While I liked Faithful and the Fallen, I binged it over a month, it is over praised. It has a lot of clunky issues due to being first works. Looking forward to Shadow of the Gods though. And waving those covers around has finally convinced me to try Ninth Rain 😆

I really struggled with Valor and ended up putting it down. I was reading it on Kindle and a lot of times, I don't do so great with ebook fantasies. I really liked Malice, but I don't know. I'm sad too because I thought I would really enjoy this series.

Yeah, I managed to finish Valor, but came very close to DNFing it myself. Personally I have to disagree with those that say it's so much better than Malice. It's less predictable because he already used up so many tropes, but instead of doing something interesting with the setup, he just ripped out anything that made the characters feel real and turned them into generic perfect good guys, and then constantly had to use words to say things that weren't supported in the text.
