Actually a device like this did exist back in the 1970's, the sears department store chain sold a home soda dispenser made by cornelius but sold under the kenmore brand name that had a motorless carbonator lid with a float valve in it just like this lid setup. It was a fairly expensive machine so they probably didn't sell a lot of them but i remember seeing one in the store on display and in the catalogs, sometimes they turn up on ebay.

@@KegLand hi there. How do I get the mains water line into a regular fridge?
@mdbbox56607 ай бұрын
@@thomasredden9068 Short of the obvious answer of drilling a hole, you may be able to tee off an internal water dispenser line depending on how it is routed. Many refrigerators have a coil of polyethelyene tubing to have at least a glass of water chilled. If you insert the tee, make sure that it is _before_ the solenoid that gets activated when you press on the water dispenser, or that opens when the ice maker needs water to make more ice.

@@Z__K217I mean honestly you don’t need much fancy if you don’t mind filling the kegs by hand but it will go empty when you use it all up. The whole thing with the float here is that it’s continuously self-replenishing. You can just buy yourself a corny keg, 2.5 or 5 gallon keg, fill with cold water, put under gas and wait for it to carbonate. When it spits and sputters swap out the keg and fill the empty one back up. You can use a Y splitter to keep both under pressure but just serve from one. If you want it to generate uninterrupted fizzy water you need a pump to force the water into the keg and like he said the pressure of that water supply has to exceed the CO2 pressure or the valve won’t be able to let the water in.

So when I hopped on Kegland site to buy some more line and fittings to finished off my masterpiece, I see your product and I'm blown away. Nice work! I'm buying one for sure. One question though. All installed. A 19 L Cornelius keg with your float valve sitting in a fridge set at 2 degrees. water pressure is 90 psi and the CO2 is set to 72 psi. I'm dispensing through a Belgium beer tap set in a German-style column. The water comes out like an erupting volcano, spluttering and gurgling. The water doesn't stay carbonated. It is like it loses a lot at the point of dispensing. I've fitted your flow control ball lock on the water out, and it does reduce the flow so I end up with a less violent volcano. Do you have any suggestions about how to get a smoother flow of fizzy water?

Just buy a used carbonator on ebay and start playing with it. I installed my system in 90 minutes flat with a water filter and a mini jockey box. The thermal mass of water is signficant and to get good carbonation at a fast pace you need to get the temp down to 0-5C so you need to pump a reasonable amount of heat. A Peltier to do this job be very power hungry and the small amount you would save on the initial purchase cost of the Peltier (when compared with a proper compressor) would be offset in your high power bill very quickly.

@@KegLand I've been running seltzer at 45 psi. How long should 4mm Eva barrier hosing be to the tap? Seems to be inconsistent at 16ft
@KegLand3 жыл бұрын
@@josepht1575 Most of the beer spouts we sell are the 10mm ID which flow best when 250ml - 450ml per 10 seconds are going through this diameter. Also I am not sure what your setzer is carbonated to but assuming it's 2.5volumes then you would be probably dispensing this at about 10-14psi at about 2-3C temperature. So assuming you are using one of our standard beer taps and the above is true then I would recommend about 1-1.5meters of 4mm ID. 16ft sounds way too long for 4mm ID but we ideally need more information from you to determin the exact figures.

How long does it take for water to become carbonated ?? How long does it take to make carbonated water 'on kegs '
@KegLand3 жыл бұрын
This is not a one line answer. The speed of carbonation is primarily a function of three different variables: 1. Temperature 2. Surface Area to volume ratio 3. Gas Pressure

@chiheblamouri94393 жыл бұрын
???
@KegLand3 жыл бұрын
@@chiheblamouri9439 It's difficult to answer the question without knowing the answer to the above numbers. If you are using a 19L keg we assume the surface area is 346cm^2 and you have the keg filled to 18L. If we assume your temperature of the keg and water is 4C. If we also assume your gas pressure is about 50psi then if you do not use this carbonation lid then the keg will be reasonably carbonated in about 2 days. If however you use this lid the water sprays into the keg in a mist and this greatly incrfeases the surface area meaningn that as long as you can continue to provide cold water to this lid you can continuously carbonate at a speed of about 40L per hour. The key point to reaching this 40L per hour speed is making sure your water stays cold. So if you want to cool water this fast then you might consider having another keg that the water chills in and flows through before it enters the carbonation keg. Anther alternative is that if you are using a really high rate of carbonated water you can consider using our Icemaster G40 unit to pre-chill the water before it goes into this unit. If you only demand about 1-5L per hour then all of this is not necessary and you can just use a single keg sitting in a cold fridge and this will do the job fine.

No worries. It's a great system that works well. We also have now finished the Benchy Sparling unit which is more expensive but it's easier to install and you do not have to use an existing fridge at all.

Hello, great product! You mentioned in the video that if you daisy chain a pre chill tank you send the water to the carbonator from the gas post. I think this is a mistake? Wouldn’t you send the water out of the prechilled from the liquid out then into the carbonator lid?
@KegLand3 жыл бұрын
You can do that too and both would work. If you go out of the gas post the pre-chilled tank will be forced to fill with water. If however you go out of the liquid post you can have a small air cavity in the pre-chilled tank so this is the only difference. You can also just solve the problem by pulling the PRV on the pre-chill tank until water comes out and you know it's full.

@@KegLand Can you run gas into the first tank as well to get a head start on carbonating? My system needs a very high throughput, I was thinking 3 kegs daisy chained together with gas running to all of them. Would that work?
@KegLand3 жыл бұрын
@@jcl77771 Yes you can do this if you want to. If you installed one of these onto the top of each keg you would have very carbonated water at the end. You might also want to consider the Benchy Sparkling unit that we just released last week. This will also do the job and can handle about 20litres per hour

Can the system be set up for bottled water? I will not voluntarily drink fluoridated water especially water from Melbourne. The fluoride is basically uncontrolled into the water supply. We have tested this finding that the levels can be up to 30 times the recommended levels. Also fluoride / fluorine is a waste product from Pivot , a company that produces fertilizer for farms. the fluoride in Melbourne's water supply is sodium fluoride which is the active ingredient in rat poison. Fluoride also strips our lymph glands of iodine which is not good for your long term health.
@Starganderfish5 жыл бұрын
The only real value in using this setup with bottled water is to remove the 1-2 day carbonation period with a keg of chilled water, because this continuously fills and carbonates. If you wanted to use bottled water to produce carbonated/fizzy water, the easiest way is to just skip the carbonation lid altogether. Buy a full-sized Corney keg (19 liters) fill it with bottled water, chill and connect directly to the gas and to a tap. It will carbonate in a day or two and off you go. When the keg is empty, refill it and repeat. That's what I currently do using filtered tap water. If you do want a more continuous, chilled setup, I suppose you could do as they suggest and use a second keg as a reservoir and just manually fill that one up from a bottle when it runs empty? Alternatively, I dont see any reason you couldn't connect this to a water filter? I think a decent 3 or 5 part water filter should strip out most of the stuff you're talking about. Worse case, a RO filter will clean that water right up, though water flow is pretty slow. Depending on the flow from your filter, you may need to go the route of a second keg as a reservoir, and one-way check valves to prevent any backflow.
@KegLand5 жыл бұрын
@@Starganderfish You can easily set the system up to feed from an RO water system. So if you really want to have pure water source that is carbonated this is the way to go. Most RO systems will have slightly low pressure on the output of the filter system so you just need to boost the pressure back up with a 12v Caravan type pump that you can pick up for about $30
