The guys on the cover of this game are Stylvester Stallone and Dolf Lundgren. The enemy characters are clearly taken from H.R. Giger's art world, which Alien appropriated. There are tons of Contra movies - this game derived most of its concepts from existing movies.

I thought it was a hard game when I first played it around 7 years old. Then later I could beat the game without the Konami code, and sometimes without losing a life. Super C is a far more difficult game.

Great game, gave you so much frustration until you mastered it. I go back and beat it a few times per year, love it! You know you got good at it when you don't have to use the 30 man code anymore. This and Contra III are my favorite Contra games. Hearing the music brings back so many memories. Great era

born 1987, I'm a master of this game, vile red falcon stands no chance. Nintendo had the best systems, and is still the leader in the evolution of video game Technology. No other system or company can match the power, ideas,or history of the technological super giant. 30+ years and still has the most famous characters in the video game industry, the most memorable music, was the pioneer for cheat codes, the portable gameboy, motion sensor technology, and even virtual gaming, and is still successfully selling merchandise from 30 year old games.super Mario and MegaMan are still household names. even Playstation jumped on the bandwagon, mimicking Nintendo wii's motion sensor technology. In my opinion Nintendo is unrivaled, even by the 3D monsters XBox and PS. A prime example, nobody talks about crash bandicoot, oddworld, spyro,etc. anymore (if anyone ever did), yet the entire world still knows, loves, and plays Super Mario, despite it being way older. Just goes to show that Nintendo's ideas are so innovative, superb, and long lasting, that they captivated the minds of millions, and branded a new super standard of gaming on the ass of the industry. NINTENDO, NOW YOU'RE PLAYING WITH POWER!!!

My older sister and I played the crap outta this game on our NES with a friend we lived with in the neighborhood we were in back in the early 1990s who had introduced us to this game. I didn't even know about the Konami Code which would give you thirty lives in the game back then, but I later learned about it when I was in my 20s. Thanks to Contra, the ever so famous Konami Code is burned into my mind.

The Japanese version of Contra actually had a plot in the game. There was a real intro, there were little 'Stage Clear' images every level you finished and I believe there were other cutscenes, too. The 'Cleared Game' jingle was also different as I'm sure you noticed in the video description.

The cover for contra (and the characters) are thinly veiled ripoffs of Schwarzanegger and Stalone from Predator and Rambo. And the Aliens in the game in the end stage are basically the Xenomorphs from the Alien movies.

My dad still thinks that's Arnold and Sly on the cover. I remember seeing that cover as a kid and thinking "these guys look familiar" but I never put the 2 together until many years later when my dad gave me his NES. My dad said "how come Arnold and Stallone only made Contra as a video game and not a movie" I had a huge smile on my face when he said that and I said to myself "that's it!"
