Welcome Back Row Access Fam!
Today's video is about finally reviewing the pipeline welding rig I built, a review on the bed, problems i've had with it over the last year and things I will change going forward. Check out minute 18 for the clean version of the truck, but I'm going full transparency on how piled up things can get when you're a contract rig welder & general contractor.
Row Access is a channel dedicated to bringing transparency to the journey of going from working a desk job to breaking into the blue collar industry of rig welding. From desk job to pipeline helper / rig welder helper to becoming a rig welder. Unfortunately, the goal of becoming a pipeline welder wasn't met but we're well on our way of becoming an established rig welder wherever we go! From side hustle jobs to big commercial welding jobs, we've done a little bit of a lot!

As someone who has been in the trades( construction>welding>mechanic>back to welding) dirty truck/tool box=busy hands, spotless truck/toolbox idle hands. Your work will speak for you yes cleanliness does matter but I run a tub rig for the reason of at the end of a 14 hour day I can throw all of my stuff in the back of the bed when I roll up for the day and not have to work that something isn’t in its exact home in a box that if it isn’t they won’t close right(how my old rig was). Never had anyone say anything about the shape of my truck or box except people making comments to make themselves feel better because I prefer old rigs

Texas style rig . Don't see them in Canada . reason snow . Top loading tool boxes can turn into a night mare especially if you as the welder are not putting your tools in them(helper) . Side doors and draws. young fellow your welding is something to be desired when in busts out like that . lack of fusion big time . you don't need to weld the underside on a corner like that if it was fit and welded right . take out the back seat and put a set of tool boxes in it . as it looks no one can sit in the back anyway . I done that with a 96 duel wheel dodge club cab . truck had a skid unit in back .4 pins to hold in place and ball hitch on the back to haul trailers . That mess you call a rig ----- yeah right . Get your shit together be a tradesmen . That weld on your fender shows your welding ability as a bronc. Do it right the first time it is cheaper in the end . the excuse no time =Bronc

I like this design. I’ll be building a new rig soon and I think I’m going to copy a lot of your ideas. I need a better way to store rods though. I work in hospitals and they don’t mess around. The rods need to be new or fresh out of an oven.

Cooking on the road. I've seen plenty of rigs with a small grill bolted to the bed. Even good restaurant food starts to get old when on the road.

Please clean and organize the truck. It’s painful to watch. I run weld rigs too, I get how busy you are but you have to make it a priority. Its your 8 ton business card. 😂. If you’re struggling with organizing 1 truck, what will happen on the job I want to hire you for?

Because I took a poll on Instagram to see who would wanna see what it’s REALLY like to work 120 hours a week, or just a fake and and cleaned up truck which isn’t ever likely to be.

I work 84 to 91 hours a week on oil refinery turnarounds and my truck would never be that bad. Never. 120 hours a week? Bullshit. Set that thing on fire and be done with it.
