I like your technique's with Blood Angels, the army I collect. Do you prefer the newly formulated Agrax earthshade or the BA/Contrast 1:1 you used here for painting the entire army? I have a lot of painting to do.

He’d paint em in the same color scheme as normal raven guard, probably added with white helmets and arms. I asked him during a stream for his thoughts on paints for raven guard, he recommended following his Horus Heresy tutorial (black legion and druchii violet or something nightshade, IIRC). My custom chapter was originally a RG successor and I wanted a good black color for the armor, but I definitely wouldn’t follow his older RG tutorial (ultramarine blue under black templar). Simply put, it’s not great, and black templar kinda sucks as a paint. I’d definitely follow his HH RG tutorial though, or if the black is a little too much, his dark angels HH tutorial (the same recipe for the black on these terminators; black legion shaded with nuln oil, it’s awesome).

It's a nice look for modern Blood Angels, and a great result, but they are a touch too dark for my tastes, as I prefer my Blood Angels to be more of an old school, almost orangey colour, like we got in 2nd edition... Would love to see how you would adapt the recipe for a more '90s aesthetic... :)

Contrast paints are from the pot. Regular acrylics should be thinned, although there are some exceptions.

Why did you switch to Baal Red from Blood Angel Red as the first color?

It’s because Baal Red is a really easy paint to work with that you can simply slap it on and have a red mini and not have to spend too much time and risk on getting that Blood Angels Red over the primer absolutely perfect at the first time of asking.
