Hi TDCat, thank you for explaining about audio peaks. May I ask if the audio levels in my recent videos are set correctly? The content loudness is around -25dB. Though, these are virtual walking tour videos with ambient noise.

Thanks for the video. Whats interesting is there is this effects -limiter but you can also still use the limiter found by double clicking dynamics like in your previous video. One has a slightly further range than the other, and a couple extra options. Would you recommend one over the other? Thank you

What if you want to do the opposite, reduce low wind noise further to make the louder bird songs stand out?

I guess they added it in DR 17 because I never saw it in 16. I use a limiter in Adobe Audition for every project, so this is very handy.

Hi, thank you for this useful video! I got a question. I have a recording of me talking. In that recording I mostly talk normally, but unfortunately I don't control my voice level perfectly and as a result sometimes my voice level becomes quieter and sometimes louder. I can try to cut my audio into sections and manually set the right amount of gain (more gain for quieter sections, normal gain for normal levels and maybe even reduce gain for louder sections), but it takes A LOT of time especially when audio is about 15 mins and voice level varies very frequently. I mean I have to do a lot of cutting. I just tried to use this Fairlight Limiter and when I set some gain and didn't touch Threshold and Release settings I still noticed the difference in levels: quieter sections were louder but still quieter than other sections. I tried playing with Threshold and Release parameters and it seems that +15 gain and -5 threshold do much better job than just +15 gain. The thing is I don't fully understand the meaning/purpose of Threshold and Release settings. Please could you explain these two parameters? Thank you.

PS: I just found in DR reference (which is probably a bit dated since it probably describes the older Limiter window) the description of Threshold: "Sets the maximum allowable output level. The default is -21dB. The range is from -50 to 0dB." and Release: "Release: Adjusts how quickly the sidechain detector stops applying dynamics when a signal goes back below the threshold. The default is 90mS. The range is 0.03 to 4.03mS.". So I think I could simply increase the gain to +18 to make sure even the lowest levels are adjusted enough and then set the Threshould to -5 and Release to 0. I think it helped me a lot though I can still hear that quieter sections are still a bit quieter than other ones. I supposed the Limiter doesn't fix the muffled portions of the audio...
