I just realised if you hold SHIFT and press the Master shortcut on the first quick keys page of the uf8 it puts the uf8 in to quick control mode. Perfect! Especially with the flip for faders.

Dom, thank you very much! My suggestion to Steinberg for developing this direction is to make LED feedback in MIDI remote for devices like Launchpad, Akai APC / Akai Fire.

im not sure if id call this a "bug" but its worth pointing out - if you save a project template that has vsti's in it, it will save the vst quick controls as they were AT THAT TIME...meaning if you change them later and you start a new project with that template, you'll have to reload the vsti to pick up the new quick control settings...at least until you re-save the template.

There are so many bugs with Quick Controls. I'm not happy that we can no longer do "CC MIDI Learn" on instances of VSTs to just control what we want. You have to change the global mapping every time and can't tweak it per-instance.

Your QC's were already pre-assigned on your harware. I'm trying to figure out how to map knobs on a Launchkey to do the same thing.

Just was looking into this last night. If you have Akai Force as a midi controller then you can map all those controls of synths, rename and save as Midi Program in Force and save as Default preset in Cubase then will always be ready to go!

I use a Novation midi controller. It has 30+ sliders and knobs and banks of them (all together may be more than 80 physical controllers). Can someone goes beyond 8 controllers you are talking about? and how do you use a third party midi controller anyway? It seems you have a specific midi controller that communicates by default with Cubase quick controls. What if people use another midi controller?

Another great in depth video Dom but I have one big big criticism and it is directed at Steinberg. I'm in the process of building an Arduino midi controller consisting of 8 knobs (quick controls) and 2 joysticks (one of them being self centring upon release). Primarily for the use in Halion Sonic with, for example Dark planet where there is X-Y control in the centre screen and another X-Y control (self centring upon mouse release) to the right of the keyboard. From the Arduino programming point of view, all of the controls are just pots changing value and I suppose suppose from designing the layout, 2 knobs or 2 faders will suffice to get the joystick doing it's job but for me, this remote feature, although spectacular in what it does is somewhat lacking in the graphical design department. An oversight from Steinberg considering how they implement the X-Y functions in quite a few of their synths, not to mention third party VST synths that also implement X-Y functions. Maybe the ability to combine 2 rotary controls, once configured, into a graphical representation of a joystick (and it's position) will be in a future update or perhaps the ability to display a slider in the horizontal position would be an easier compromise but ideally the detection of two controls being moved at the same time by moving the joystick diagonally would then recognise that it's a joystick.

I'm kinda excited for the media remote. Just wondering. this is like 99% like mixermaps introduced way back in the Atari days, just turned around 180 degrees to work with fysical hardware that can send out cc controls to control both hardware and software. Instead of an onscreen Editor/mixer of hardware synths and other gear. But ever since Steinberg introduced mixermaps, it has hardly goten any new maps created other than a small set of gear from the early 90's that Steinbrg provided and which is hidden well in the package today. If you arent looking for it not many will ever know it still exists. Really hope that Media Remote gets more popular. The downside of mixermaps was propably that you often had to look up your gear's midi implementation and if not familiar with how sysex messages work it could be a challenge to create your own maps.

I tried using this with Omnisphere 2 but for some reason it doesn't work? Whenever I try to assign a parameter with the learn function it simply doesn't work, even though it works with all the other synths. If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated since I used omnisphere as my main synth. Thanks :)

On Windows all vst2 plugins are working in Cubase 12. JBridge also. No problem. C12 is very stable and with better performance. highly recommend. 👍

Dom, I usually really like your videos, but surely this video is only useful for people whose device already has the MIDI mapping set up with Quick Controls. Isn't the question of how to do that - the things already set up on your system before you start explaining anything - at least half the story here?

Most synth players want envelopes on their faders and filter/oscillator control on the rotaries, yet the new MIDI Remote system still has us limited to 8 controls. I really hope they increase the number, or add paging. (if you roll your mouse on the VST Rack 'layer' control it's already there that you can change pages of focused quick controls, but simply not utilised as part of MIDI Remote, infuriating). Make them see sense, Dom. Please!

I was about to add this.. that's the limiting factor. Why only 8? Lot of synths have WAY more controller capabilities and with expandable hardware controllers.. why limit to 8? Seems silly since it's software.. they should easily be able to detect/work with more than just 8 controllers.

why not midi learn that worked for 50 years ? why ? WHYYYY ? I just don't get it .. why add a layer off learn that only has 8 stupid assignments when midi learn has 127 ?! !!! And now QC takes over midi so your controler does either QC or midi.. combining orchestral plugins that requires more than QC that only works with CC and stupid dedicated plugins like massive X makes our life a nightmare. THIS IS A BAD IDEA !
