it's so cool to look at the meter when the vocal chain is done, you can actually see that is peaks a tiny bit lower with the plugins then without, but still the preserved loudness is like twice as loud

This is great. One of the main problems I've had is that recording vocals always makes vocalists feel very conscious about their abilities. Of course, if you're an incredible vocalist, that helps, but poorly treated vocals just harm confidence of the performers. The end result is fantastic.

🍀 A big compliment, Dom. This is an extremely helpful video, precisely because vocals are so important in a song, but their post-processing is inevitably somewhat neglected in the "amateur camp" for lack of in-depth knowledge. As has always been the case with you, everything has been explained very well here. Also very easy to understand for me, since English is not my native language (by the way). For me this tutorial is a revelation! Thanks very much! 🍀

Hi Dom and thanks for your advice. You have another video that talks about manual de-esser with keyboard shortcuts to execute a macro (cut to delmitors, gain -3...). Is it better to use the brush or to play with the gain? I find that the keyboard shortcut saves time but with the brush you don't cut the containers. So what's your opinion on the question? Thanks a lot, and please don't stop the music !

Hi thanks for that. But is this for Cubase ai 11 as well or only Pro (I only got to the first secret)? I cannot find the shown tool to change the volume (Input gain). I only draw in the corners of some track section to fade out, or cut (scissors) a section in a track and then alter the volume for all that section (by drawing the small square up or down). SO is that how I am supposed to do it with Cubase AI 11. Another question. I have set my input gain on a yamaha DGX 670 to 98 (out of 100 with Samson Q2U =dynamic mic) by checking that it does not come into the red field on the gain lever (in the piano's display). So if it distorts here, not much to do to recover it in Cubase right. But should I really lower the MIC Input in Cubase to between -10 and -20 DB, and do the numbers in the Mix console levers indicate DB? I think -20 is awfully low. I read it online. It does not seem to distort at 0 or more in CUbase (db or whatever). So if not turning red then isn't it better to wait with turning it down at the Master level (Stereo Out bus) and avoid it becoming red at that level which is where the backing track and vocals are mixed? Txs

Hi, Could you please help me with the compatibility of Digidesign 003 rack and Cubase 12.0.30? Apparently everything is set but when I play a track in a project the sound is kind of doubled and when I change the amount of buffer size this noise a little changes as well. I found that it could be because of the version of the driver but it’s up to date to the latest version available on Avid website. However, my 003 rack interface is working smoothly with Avid Protools Ver. 12.5 I would really appreciate your attention in advance.

@Steinberg - the clip volume envelope could be a great thing, if it had better usability. As it is of now, it is horrible to use, the little dots are way too small and you always keep missing them when you want to correct them and instead add a new handle which you don’t want. And for de-essijg, like Dom shows here, it is very cumbersome, instead of using the select tool to select the region and drag a handle down (like in automation), you have to insert two points and drag them individually to the right level. PITA!! Pleasepleaseprettyplease make it work like normal automation curves, with all the tools you can use for that (pencil, selection etc). And let us increase the level, too.
@dmues5s2 жыл бұрын
Fully agree! Plus: where does this curve start and end, and at what level? If you look closely you will see the curve ramp on and off slightly at the beginning and end of the event. But this is not a fixed point. If you grab the first dot and move it, the curve apparently starts at some virtual point well ahead of the event's starting point. Same at the end. As nice as I thought this tool was in Cubase 4.5, I stopped using it because I never knew exactly what I was doing with it. And just judging the levels by eyes instead of ears - well, no.

@@kye903 Well, you are one lucky guy! I am using Windows 10 and the Cubase tends to crash especially when closing application after a long session. I had the same issues on my previous PC.
