That's great news. There are weighted jackets that you can fill with water which helps to tire dogs out faster if you don't have as much time or space to use during shorter walks. But be careful cause it can backfire too.

Something that would help is if breeders started demanding prospective owners to bring some knowledge from researching their breed and training philosophies. Like " you want to buy one of my puppies? What is the difference between positive reinforcement and compulsive training? Just saying, if I bred dogs I'd be exactly like my last breeder who oh man made us jump hurdles lol to get a puppy. She was right tho , the entire litter were land sharks. Their mom was a retired Police dog and their dad was a retired German border patrol dog with both parents having 10 generations of either Police K9s or Border Patrol dogs . Allowing those puppies to go to just any home would have been a complete disaster . I'm not so naive to think there's a helluva lot of breeders who could care less about anything but the $$.

Definitely should be a common sense test to buy an aggressive breed like a PitBull. I am not referring to the owner or her dog. I see a bunch of people with kids and they just aren’t qualified to really raise any dog, let alone an alpha breed

So many trainers were scaring me away from dog parks, saying they were dangerous and generally bad places so I avoided them for so long. Thanks to your advice I finally went and my dog was so, so, much better afterwards. She really needed it. I followed your advice of making sure she was loose leash walking before going in, and like you said I'm not afraid to stand up for my dog if others are being too rough and leaving if I don't like the energy. You gave me the confidence to feel comfortable bringing my dog and standing up for her. It's the only time she gets to run full speed and actually get all of her energy out. She's calmer in the house and with my cats. Game changer! You're the best trainer I've watched and I recommend your channel to so many people. Thank you for your videos! You've changed both my life and my dogs for the better.

Keep your guard on though. There are some rather dominant agressive dogs there sometimes. Laser stare and stiff upward tail, are signs to look for. Protect your dog, from these types. They will mess up your dog. I goto dog parks, btw.

@@Luckingsworth Depending on the size of dog, I agree. But if the owner cannot control their agressive dog. I will do it for them. Trust me, I am tolerant of dog play. But I personally know two dogs, who have turned reactive agressive. Because of getting blindsidedly attacked, by a charging dog. Which before those incidentd, were normal dogs. I would advise people keep their dogs away from dog parks. Until you have bonded with your dog first. Your dog above all, should listen to you. Train your dogs with minimal distraction. You and the dog. Then goto high distraction areas, like parks.

Joel is 100% correct about the look of a massive doberman. There's something intense and serious about them. Cane Corso's get large, but they don't have that look of intensity that a doberman has.

We’re struggling with excessive mounting at the dog park. Yesterday was chaos. The various personalities were not in harmony at all. We had to leave. Another owner with an overstimulated dog also went to a separate quiet part of the park. You’re teaching me so much. For one thing, I appreciate the work other owners are doing with their dogs.

I used to work at American summer camps and I totally agree on the exhaustion method. There are so few problems at most good summer camps because everyone (the staff included) are exhausted (physically and socially) by the end of the day. Everyone is generally much happier at summer camp than in any other time of their lives too, so it clearly works. A few weeks of it and the kids change. You really see it with kids that have not spent a summer at a camp before. Quite a few kids arrive for the first time with behavioural issues and lacking in social skills. I've never seen a child go home without a huge improvement in both of these areas. Just like your session in this video, it's incredible the impact of kids learning that their social interactions have consequences and it's amazing how rapidly their change their behaviour patterns once they realise it.

Walks are not exercise." Yes, this! My red setter wasn't big or aggressive. But he needed a lot of off leash run time so he could settle and not destroy things. Dog parks weren't big enough, plus he was a humper magnet so we had to find other places to run. He wasn't overly interested in playing with other dogs anyway, he just wanted to run and follow his nose. I did have an e-collar for him that we called his Here-ing aid. The collar was just a reminder that he really wasn't deaf and he really did know what "Here!" (Come!) meant. Basically, it provided an instant leash correction half a football field away.

That’s true my almost 7 month old standard poodle is very jumpy and grabby too but when we can get her energy out both mentally and physically she’s a lot calmer. When she gets the zoomies and over excited it gets hard and exhausting to stop her especially when it’s not just us she jumps on but also up on the counter and the table etc. it was greet when on our longer walk yesterday she got in some good play time with a neighbour’s golden . She was nice and tired after. I was going to walk a bit longer but didn’t need to due to that playtime.

I’ve been watching this channel for over 2 months but up until last week didn’t try the loose leash walking method. I tried all the positive reinforcement methods and attention games and what not which never worked. I’ll be honest and say I did try Beckmann s method of loose leash walking maybe a few times at the beginning of the walk and then get frustrated and used to put the no pull harness because I had no patience to keep up with stopping correcting throughout the walk so I gave up. And the dog never learned. So 3 days ago I thought of trying his method for just 15 minutes, next day same thing tried for 15 min walk and the 3rd day for 30 mins walk. OMG 15 mins into the walk on the last day my dog a border collie who thinks he is the boss was walking loose leash with me. Bonus was he was paying attention (not looking at me all the time) but stopping when I stoped turning when I turned. I say bonus bcos I never expected for him to pay attention to me. Joel is the GOAT in loose leash walking. Again, I only tried this so I’m vouching for loose leash tech. I will start implementing others as well. What inspired me to try was the video with the German shepherd DANE. My dogs behavior is exactly the same when we go for walks. For all the people who have given up on loose leash walking please try this method and stay consistent on every wrong move and within a week or in my case 3 days the dog will learn not to pull. This is def my fav dog channel. I have been a little scared of big dogs all my life. These dog channels on youtube has taught me so much about the relationship between dog and humans and it has made me more comfident and a better human for dogs and a better version of my self. A friend of mine had American Pitbull 5-6 years old that was neglected. First i was terrifeid of it cause its so high energy and a bully. Not a calm dog cause it was trapped inside only getting small walks. After a couple of years where i had gotten to know the dog better. i saw a beatuyfull dog with so much potentsial. I was biast against the pit at first i have to admitt. Noone looks happy when theyre needs for care is neglected, i think the dog had a lot of fear and not much respect for humans. I dont agree with the owner, i repeatedly told him to take his responsibilty seriously or find him another home, and he finally gave in when the dog was 8 years old. As time went by the owner asked if i could take care of the dog while they wore on vacation every now and then. I fell totally in love with the dog and decided to try to give him a better life than the owner could. I took him home and it was a nightmare at first. I could only do small walks cause i felt he was so out of controll. I worked with having a schedule on our walks, playinh with him home, giving him tasks, treats, corrections, rules. watched a ton of Cecar Milan😊👍. After a while i was over his behaviour... love that word "im over it"😄 I started taking him on walks in to the forrest wich lasted hours. Camping togheter, eating and drinking. Within a 14 days i had him in a long 15 meter leash and he didnt mind walking past dogs! Everyone can work with dogs if they are willing to work with them selfs as well. And the relationship you get is just pure love♥️ Thank you for sharing your knowledge and care, it is so inspiring to watch.

This was great! Your voice-over after the shoot seemed to allow you a chance to fully interpret and discuss all the dogs' various states and reactions. Also, you mentioned in this how sometimes Prince will tuck away an insult to be dealt with later. I have a dog like that. Rico is my own top dog - finished dog - and sometimes I take in board and trains in addition. No matter how disrespectful one of them tries to get, Rico will not discipline them in the house. He comes to me and I intervene. But the next time we are out in the field, although Rico never plays and couldn't care less about it, Rico will invite the insulter to play. Not knowing what's about to happen, the unsuspecting dog accepts with enthusiasm. Rico then proceeds to play so rough - not fight; just play - the other dog soon tucks tail and decides he's done. From that day on the other dog understands Rico's speed and power but since there was never a direct challenge or fight, there is no need to retaliate.

Looking at this guy's face and build in general he's at least partially european dobermann. And out of experience, they are extremely driven and strong dogs, cus they're still bread for that over here. So I'm glad these people take it seriously and look for a good trainer like Joel to make sure their dog is set up for success before he becomes to much. Also thank you Joel for all the tips and tricks. I've been using it on our cheeky Chihuahua for the past couple of months. He now walks well on a leash and is less in your face with other dogs.

I have to add a comment, too funny when Prince is so proud when no one can catch him. My mini goldendoodle just loved running with whoever would run with her. A never been caught whippet was beat by her, he was pissed and proceeded later to pee on her when she was resting. All at the dog park understood what happened, unfortunately the owner didn't correct her whippet. That whippet will eventually find out the hard way, oh well. Your videos have helped me greatly, as a long time dog owner with a 16 month old wacko doodle never needed serious correction techniques before. 18 year Westie, never a problem, 20 year old poodle never a problem, a mini goldendoodle has just about got me in 18 month saying at least once a week "That's it, you are going to the farm". Love her but never had such a challenging dog. Fabulously socialized with other dogs, but just wacky over the top exuberance for the most part, overprotective of the home, serious seperation anxiety. Too me it's just really bad breeding, and hopefully we can correct the defects that I know are there. Would I trust her around children, absolutely not. She is unpredictable, not vicious but loses her mind at times. Thank you for all your advice, it absolutely helps!!!

This timing is perfect. 👌 We just reunited our two 6mo aussies after 2 weeks as the girl recovered from surgery. While they were both good as they could be during training, walked and long leashed daily independently, their pent up energy turned into (1) guard dog barking and stranger fear from him and (2) intense barking and lunging at other dogs by her so she can play with them, freaking everyone out. Moved to a slip leash to control her carefully and started rebuilding his confidence with treat offerings by folks. Few days after they got back together and frenetically played until exhausted, most of the behaviors extinguished.

These videos are GREAT for people trying to understand communication between dogs. I have a 8 y/o Doberman with a very similar personality and temperament as Prince!! He is an excellent communicator but gets in a lot of scuffles while reinforcing social boundaries. He has developed an aversion to huskies/northern breeds because so many of them have communicated inappropriately with him in the past and the owners often have no idea that their dog is behaving in a problematic way. Now he sometimes holds a grudge and will go back for more if a dog really pushes him the wrong way. I still want my Doberman to have a social life without having to deal with constantly teaching dogs a lesson that their owners aren’t even understanding. He is super playful and laid back and I need help figuring out how to foster more positive playtime - especially as he ages. Have you ever had a dog develop an aversion to another breed or hold a grudge? Thank you sooooo much!! You’re doing a killer job.

Huskies do it for my dog too. I haven’t had one be “aggressive” but every encounter, with ONE exception, they’ve been way too pushy!! My dog just gets her feelings hurt and acts confused but now she’ll bark at any husky when they’re at a distance 🤷‍♀️ I’ve heard it’s because huskies look like wolves/coyotes and most dogs have a natural aversion but I suspect that’s a myth. And my dog was fine with them until they were too bossy - every time lol - so now she does her preemptive “I don’t want anything to do with you” barking 😕

I love your approach. Your videos are awesome! I have an 11 week old female doberman and I will be working my way through your vids to learn as much as i can. In two we start puppy/small obedience classes (7 classes over 3 1/2 weeks). Those will be so good for both of us. I work from home and am with her all the time. (i have had her for two weeks). She gets pretty panicky (whining/barking) when i have her in the car and i go into the grocery store and whines when i’m driving or in new situations. i understand the innate neediness and clinginess of the Doberman breed. i want to ensure i meet all her needs and develop trust but feel like i’m walking a fine line between meeting that and developing a learned behaviour of whining for my attention. I don’t want to disregard her if she’s whining since she could be trying to communicate with me. Wow, i just wanted to tell you i liked your video and it turned into that. haha. i haven’t visited dog parks yet and the majority of experiences have been on our ten acre property so i will work on getting her socialized with other dogs. There is a well-mannered well-trained 1 year old german shepherd who lives close to us in a fenced yard so i will set up some play dates. Thank you for sharing your work!!

Fantastic video. My 8mth old Cane Corso desperately needs this kind of opportunity. But it's hard to find people who are comfortable letting him interact with their dogs.

You are so correct that you have to get that energy out of the dog. I use to play fetch with a tennis ball hand thrower to tire out my golden, she could not get enough of that game, she would chase that darn ball until she dropped. I also worked on sit, stay, lay and roll over while playing fetch then we would finish with a swim in the pool. Her name was Ginger and she was an exceptional golden and very well behaved and trained.

Love this cause you can tell the mental frustration in some of these dogs especially dobies Mental stimulation is a key aspect into dogs, and some breeds need more or less than others Dobermans and most or even all herding breeds need mental stimulation/exercise While physical activity is good it doesn’t effectively tore the dog out than what mental exercise Do mental games with you’re dog They will be tired A tired dog is a happy dog

I so love your training methods. And yes I am a Caesar fan. I deal with tough, stubborn dogs. Not perfect fluffy lap dogs. Foster rescued Rottweilers. Have 7 now and 8 of my various own dogs who needed saving. I don’t have fights. A few over excited moments but no fights. I yell a lot and correct immediately for unwanted behavior. New dogs are kenneled to acclimate through the cage and rotate separately for yard time. Some take 2 days to be out with the pack. I got one now it’s been 7 days and he is a bully to my outgoing dogs. I have 5 seniors who could care less. He is being neutered today and hoping he gets it. This is what he needs. 2 yrs old and was never socialized with dogs. With me he’s a baby. Good thin he takes correction immediately. Great job. So glad you share with us.

As a paperboy way back in the day........I never found the big dogs to be scary except for the ones trained to be vicious......most big dogs are mellow dobermans included.......I got the most bites from small dogs. People don't train them.......

We got our male euro dobie at 6 weeks old. He was too young, and his mom was inexperienced in checking her pups, since it was her 1st litter. Long story short, he was a Tasmanian devil, always biting our hands and body slamming himself on us. Eventually we found a trainer and did a month board n train. He came back 100 times better.
