I truly cannot praise you enough. I love that when talking to clients/people you’re helping, you don’t beat around the bush, instead you’re matter of fact, down to business, no fluff and pacifying the dogs owners and you educate, inform but also you’re very blunt with them. While you are obviously a gentleman, and that also is very obvious for your dedication, passion, wanting to help, and love for dogs, you’re stern, not afraid to speak the cold hard facts/truths that may not exactly be rainbows and roses for the owner to hear/realize, it’s truly for the sole purpose of trying to help them and the doggos. This was the best session for her, not for the dogs, because she understands now, what she has to do. She is/was a little bit clueless. Doggies are good. They learn quick. She does not really understand what her dogs need. Maybe it’s this „My husband wants dogs“ thing. She likes dogs too but don’t understand that she have really to work with them. If you don’t have the time or don’t want to work - get a cat!

As an owner of multiple dogs the problem is that they will feed of each other when it comes to energy. So if you have one hyper dog and you bring in another dog before too long you got 2 hyper dogs.

@@BDTraining we adopted a female shepherd at six months old with a 9 month old male gsd. You can imagine the psychosis my husband and I experience having two gsd around the 9 month age. *finger gun to mouth* what were we thinking haha. My goodness we love them but no walks together it just can’t happen right now. Working on mastering the pops in leash work. My female gets vindictive with the gentle leader and acts WORSE. Both do pretty good on their own: not great but good, and together it’s lunacy and competition.

@Pigeonsandpoultry i have a neighbor who bought 3 puppies, different breeds, all at once. Within half a year, they were always out of their property, terrorising all other pets in the area. They came after my farm cats and small livestock, I had to shoot at them, call animal control, finally yelling at them after chasing the dogs off my property on the july 4th weekend, infront of their family, finally got them to fix their fence. Ffs, train your dogs people!

Amen! I have a male with severe anxiety, it got worse after my other dogs passed away so I adopted a 2 year old female and bingo! She took on all his negative qualities. Both are out of control. Gun to head !

Half the most relevant things for me came from videos that initially seemed to be about an irrelevant topic for me. If you watch long enough the penny will drop for you too. I think a big piece of the puzzle with your dogs is that you advocate for them. respect is to be given by guest whether human or dog. It's also a good example to the owners on how they should also advocate for their dog and that's how you can gain that trust between you and your dog. They are only going to trust you as much as you trust them. It's kind of the same way with respect. But I think it is a huge piece of why his dogs have the ability to help all these other dogs and that is because they trust their dad and they know that he's going to make sure that these other dogs know this is his house and he is to be respected. There's more than one purpose when he tells the owners "is it cool for him to go up to Prince & be mean? Of course not this is his house". Part of it is conveying the attitude that we need to have but another part is to make sure that they understand that he is going to advocate for his boy!

Great diagnosis Joel! Just OOC dogs without boundaries nor respect, which was soo obvious at the last 'sit' -- your patience with them is amazing (did you internally smile and shake your head in disbelief?). Choppo reminds me so much of my dog Bear. Same look, same temperament, same dominant traits. It's taken more than 6 months of diligent training to finally break free of the craziness to the point where we can pass other dogs mostly without incident. It's hard work but so worth it.

Have to tell you, I got the gentle leader yesterday and used it on my two dogs today. It worked fantastic. My little Ausie who constantly pulls me, goes nuts when someone comes by, people or dogs. She doesn't like the gentle lead one bit. However, for the first time in almost 3 years she did not pull once. I worked with her for about 20 minutes in the back yard before the walk. She spent her time trying to take the leader off and was successful a few times. The last half of the walk she was almost perfect. Kept next to me and did not pull me at all. My other dog is 70 lbs Aussie/Great Pyrenees mix. She goes nuts every time someone walks by with or without a dog as well. Very hard to handle. I did not work with her at all before the walk. She did so well!! I only had to correct her once when we came up on a dog outside. After that she was by my side not showing any aggression. I can't wait for the next walk when I will take them at the same time. Thanks for showing your method so many times. It works Great!!!!!

I used to think that my dogs (boerboel and German shepherd) barking at other dogs through a fence was not a big deal. Today I was walking around the village with them and the they did the usual pulling and jumping on fences with dogs inside and barking. This particular fence had a male Pitbull inside and it lock-jawed my boerboel in the face as he was jumping. I was so shocked and I picked up everything on the ground and threw it at the pitbull but he didn't let go. My boerboel was crying so loud (he's only 8 months old) and I was so hurt for him. Luckily the owner of the pitbull was home and she threw some cold water on her pitbull and after about 5 minutes of locking he let go. My point is: Please train your dogs to stop leash pulling and jumping because it can kill them or injure bad.

Thank you for this video! I have two pullers. When we go on runs, I have them on my waist belt, on a Y connector attached to the leash on my belt. That way, they end up pulling each other instead of me. But this was good to learn how to train them to walk on loose leash at the same time.

You are absolutely awesome and so incredibly knowledgeable. I believe that oftentimes we (being humans, and most having a wide variety of complex emotions, feelings, and morals) kind of look at a situation (such as this), and apply our human views, feelings, and see things from a human perspective. While that isn’t exactly a horrible or bad thing, when it comes to certain situations, again such as this one and dealing with dog/pack animal behaviors, it also is not at all beneficial and conducive to fixing learned behaviors (like dogs bluntly being AHoles.) This man, by letting the natural flow of behavior, pecking order, and allowing aggressive dogs to get “checked”, just five minutes completely trumps and is way more effective than weeks, months, even years of trying to discipline through collars, time out cages, and all the unnatural ways that just go completely against the natural order and flow regarding pack animals and such. Thank you greatly.

Your animals need to be able to obey you, even cats. My cats know multiple commands and know to follow them...the 2nd time I say them. 😅 If one of them becomes an a$$h*le, I just start ignoring it, but giving attention to other cats, works every time. I don't think purely positive reinforcement will work with most animals...well unless they are old. Old animals don't need much if any scolding.

In this case the nervous means that they are not properly excercised and have these suppressed emotions and energy which makes them fidgety, always moving, not being able to calm down. To be nervous can also mean to be stressed, but that would mean something completely different (fight and flight response). Reactive means showing too much response to a stimulus which may not require such a strong reaction. These dogs are reactive becouse they bark at Joel even though he is not a threat and there is no need to threaten him in such way. Aggressive means that the dog is showing the aggressive behaviours, such as showing teeth, staying rigid, staring in the eyes, tail up not moving, howl, bark, bite). Aggression can have many different reasons behind, such as showing dominance, psychological problems (abuse in past), sometimes just nasty dogs who werent properly trained and think they can do whatever they want. My answers are pretty short but there is much more theory behind these terms. They all mean something different. Nervousness is an emotion, reactivness would be a behavioural trait, aggression is a type of behaviour. Try reading some ethology books on dog behaviour, it will become much more clear to you :)

@@inspire2respire382 well, you have a puppy. Which means that his/her brain is not fully developed and he does not behave as a grown adult dog would behave in the same situation. I would guess that your puppy is just naturally fearful, which is completely normal and understandable. You must take into account, that he/she was just brought to this world and everything he/she is experiencing is new to him/her. New places, new people, every new stimulus is new - for the first time seen, heard, smelled, touched.. These stimuli can be simply overwhelming to a growing puppy at the moment, thats why it acts scared, nervous, is untrustworthy to people. Try to desentisize your puppy, let it experience various stimuli and give it a time. These reactions will become less frequent with age. BUT! I am speaking very generally and when evaluating any behavior, many factors should be taken into account. For example, some breeds are generally less "trustworthy" towards strange people, it is their genetics. Also you didnt mention the age of your dog which is very inportant, as puppy can be anything between 1 days do 2 years. Additionally to that, there are certain fear periods in life of a growing puppy. During this time of growing, puppies are especially fearful and things which they experienced many times before, can freak them out. There is simply no short or strightforward answer to your question becouse you did not give sufficient information about your case. Every situation is different, every dog is different.

A few episodes ago he said he'd stop using the brand name Gentle Leader because he didn't get any sponsorship from them and other brands work just as well. He calls it a gentle leader out of habit not brand loyalty. I get the impression any 'bridle' type loop over the muzzle with an attachment under the chin is going to do the same thing. My trainer advised me to accustom the dog to the GL when hand feeding the dog. First it has to put it's muzzle through the loop to get at your palm. A few days of this until it's happy. Then you put it on it at feeding time. A few days of this until it welcomes the idea of just wearing it = food time. Only then do you attach the lead. Had one dog that hated the GL and would writhe all over the floor, we didn't accustom her to the GL. Current dog sees it as a signal he's going out.

Yes she is an Australian Kelpie, I have one and you're correct they are working dogs. They need exercise, and lots of it. As well as the usual structure and training. She is smart as can be and even after 11 years consistent training she can test me to see if I will follow through (I always do.) They're a great breed, if you have the time and energy. Loyal, playful, smart, relaxed. The perfect dog with sufficient exercise. 🥰

Puppies and dogs have the brain capacity of a two year old toddler. They can also develop the same emotional state of mind and trauma as humans do. My dog is my ESA and I want her to not act like a stubborn mule, or a raging bull on the flat walk/earth hike.

Hey Joel, I've got a request for you - I have a small toy dog and your leash training videos for small dogs have made her an almost perfect walker. However, the second she has someone other than my partner or myself hold the lead she pulls constantly, as they dont know the techniques to get her to walk with you. The answer is hidden in the question . " almost perfect walker " that means the dog is still in the formative stages of training . You and your partner keep up the training . Then don't let untrained people anywhere near your dogs lead , until they have been given and understand your handling method .
