I have had my my 160 gallon garden fountain for over 13 years and have used a UV filter, all this time, and am just seeing string algae for the first time , I spent the day today and removed it from my 160 gallon pond liner using a long thin putty knife , that has fish in it , and looks good now, should I start adding salt and what kind ? I found your barley extract on Amazon and thinking of using that versus the barley straw bales , please advise me at this point, thanks

Hi, the barley straw extract is good because it is easy to apply we don't have to wait for the straw to start rotting, and caused a mess the salt is good too, we typically add a pound and a half per hundred gallons for the algae. So about 2 lb should be good you can do both at the same time the UV light has no effect on the string algae, because it is not being exposed to the UV it simply grows on the liner and on rocks

I actually went out yesterday and scraped it all out with a wide spackling knife, and a net I have a 160 gallon pond liner under my 3 tiered fountain with no plants , but I have comet fish should I still go ahead and apply the IPA pond salt after this and at what ratio, it is clear now , and still using my UV filter ? Thanks for your replies 👍😀, still have some barley bails floating around in there , need to clean my tiered 3 layer bowls of algae , not running the fountain top spillover till the pond is ok , awaiting your response, I am a subscriber with you with helpful responses, Thanks

@@zabajart 1.5 lbs per hundred gallons is good, but since you have no plants you can increase the salt level if you want, perhaps 2-2.5 lbs/100 gallons.

@@jerseyshorepondscapesvideos is that still ok even though I have fish in it, I have removed 98 % of the string algae should I still apply all that salt since I removed most of it ? Or wait to see if it comes back then apply it, Interesting I have never seen that string algae in my small pond, until this year, I have had this pond over 12 years
