Charles Murray is now canceled. He doesn’t get invited to colleges anymore.

----
Murray is racist and sexist, say activists, because he wrote the book, "The Bell Curve,” which says that IQs differ by race, and that blacks, on average, have a lower IQ than whites.
“Do you believe that blacks are intellectually inferior?” I ask him.
“If you give mental tests to a represented sample of whites and a representative sample of blacks, there will be about a one standard deviation difference,” Murray explains. "To then translate that into people being inferior and superior is idiotic.”
"East asians, on average, have a higher IQ than whites. Ashkenazi Jews have higher IQs," Murray adds. It’s just a fact.
Many researchers say Murray is correct. Still, lots of people want no discussion about racial differences. Murray has been “cancelled.”
But Murray has interesting ideas that deserve to be heard… NOT shouted down. You can listen to him here on STOSSEL TV.

After I read The Bell Curve, I also read a 500 page collection of criticism of the book. I even tracked down the vaunted Mismeasure of Man by Steven J. Gould. None of them attacked the data or the conclusions, because apparently those are all rock solid. Instead, they attacked the authors, their motives, their biases, and even their parentage. Gould's book turned out to be one long logical fallacy, that racists invented IQ, so IQ must be racist. For an academic, it's a stunning failure.

If averages were the basis of political organisation, white people wouldn't be winners. And the assumption that reduced intellectual wattage means less moral value is factually inaccurate (unless you assert german rocket scientists aligned with a certain moustachioed gentlemen were swell guys) and buys into the logic behind eugenics. There is no ‘my truth’. There is only so if you are a postmodernist that believes there is no objective truth. So effectively, these people are being turned into postmodernists who don’t acknowledge objective truth, thus can be convinced of anything and everything. Discerning truth is no longer a goal which leads to complete delusion and groupthink.

I didn't realize the average IQ differences were so large. 15 points is a big difference. It's too bad people can't hear that without immediately reacting emotionally and jumping to conclusions about what it "means." It could mean any number of things -- lousy schools, the effects of poverty, effects of discrimination, bias in test questions, elements of black culture that look down on learning/education as submitting to white culture, etc. But instead they immediately think he's saying black people are inherently dumber and react violently. They don't think, they just react.

I remember when The Bell Curve came out. I was walking by a book store in the mall with my wife and son, and saw the book on display. I don't know what drew me to it, but I read the description and was intrigued, so I bought it. I thought it was well-researched and -written. One thing that seems to always be overlooked--and wasn't mentioned in this video--is that the first part of the book is used to describe the methods involved, using a limited set of data of only white respondents. To show that the methods used throughout the book were valid, they included a chapter showing the variations without having race as a factor. They (Murray and Herrnstein) then used all data and broke it down by race (in part 3 IIRC). The same variations held, showing the methods were legitimate. They went to pains in the book (as he did in this video) to explain that variations by race are not so great as to give any particular group an overriding advantage. It wasn't until after I'd bought and read the book that I saw interviews on TV with Murray defending it (Herrnstein died around the time of publication). I think it would be good to have knowledge, and pure data is not racist.
