Hi - I really like this video - you've spelled out the differences between conventional and synthetic oils in a format that's entertaining & easy for anyone to understand. I've been using synthetic motor oil for a couple of decades - it's well worth the extra cost. My three highest mileage cars had 240,000 mi ('03 Durango), 303,000 mi ('95 Grand Cherokee) and 362,000 mi ('70 Olds 442) when I sold them - all were still running well when sold.

All this video does is validate my dedication to using only full synthetic oils and not changing my oil every 3000 miles. I think that plus buying quality filters has definitely helped my Mustang's engine not have any issues despite having 180k miles on it and it being over 20 years old. Shame I didn't do that with my suspension... all the money saved not fixing a broken engine went towards endlessly fixing suspension issues...

For me, the age and condition of the engine is also a thing to consider. Fully syn on new engines especially with variable valve timing yes definitely recommended. But for old cars there are cases people switches to fully syn like 0w or 5w from conventional then the engine leaks and rattles like hell. Engine condition can also be a factor and also some old engines are not even designed to run on fully synthetic like 0w when they were new. At least that's what i think. Conventional oil is fine just remember to change it regularly.

Unfortunately, I have found that with newer engines that require synthetics you really shouldn't go past 5000 miles on an oil change anyway. With the addition of turbos and other items that add to the wear and tear on your engine you should keep the same service intervals and use the better oil. That being said... on an older engine, synthetic oil still looks new at 5000 miles so I can see the feasibility of a 10000+ mile oil change.
