One of my first errors with numbers was that I thought it was supposed to be 이백만이십만 not 이백이십만 which makes it much easier Also I just wanted to say the easiest way for me to remember these was using scientific denominations. 10^4 = 만 10^8 = 억 10^12 =조 10^16 = 경 삼조팔천오백이십억

3:42 It's interesting that 56 (오십육) is pronounced as "오심육". But the other Sino-Korean numbers pronounce "십" properly. Why is that?
@belindathecamel5 жыл бұрын
Frank M Because in Korean, when two different words are getting together, like 56(오십 50 combined with 육 6), they're naturally trying to make it pronounced easily. In this case, the 'ㅂ' sound from '오십' becomes 'ㅁ' sound to pronounce '오십육' smoother. If '십(10)' used only, with no following word, then it would sounds in its original way '십'.
@belindathecamel5 жыл бұрын
Umm and actually, 56(오십육) pronounced like '오심뉵', since some other detailed principles for easy pronouncing (for connecting words) would be added. But I don't think you should know that much because most of Koreans even don't know the exact principles and I know them just because I major in Korean language in Korea University XD
@Meyra_5 жыл бұрын
I heard more like ㄴ rather than ㅁ 😅✨
@FrankM5 жыл бұрын
@@belindathecamel I understand the sound change rule when it comes to "ㅂ". But right after 56 (오십육), the next example is 61 (육십일) and that is pronounced just as it is written.
@iamageckov59395 жыл бұрын
It's a bit of "tmi" but it raises more questions than answers (some i havent found the answer to)sooo.. Yeahh.. Though if ur persistent, here is the reasoning that Ive heard from another korean-learning youtuber (GoBillyKorean). [PS. its frome one of his livestream about batchim, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKOzdGRroLyMY5o at ~1:24:00] Okay, so the reason for that, is because the number "6" in sino korean used to have a "ㄹ" so it's "륙" (tho it's not used in writing or spelling for that matter but idk for some reason it came up here) Because of batchim, 십륙 - > ㅂ+ㄹ = ㅁ + ㄴ Hence, "심뉵" (sorry if its edited, I needed to make sure if im right, so might as well quote my source ^^)
