@final boss yes, you have to look at the big picture. People deny that trump is racist because he doesn't come out and say "I am totally racist and I think that white people are superior. I think that we are just smarter and better basically, so I don't care as much for other people." Because he doesn't say that, people dismiss any accusations against him as lefty SJW shit. Same goes for Murray and his band of intellectual bigots.

I am reading that book right now. My eldest brother came to visit, and bought him The Strange Death of Europe. I have never gotten him anything he was too crazy about- he’s the man who has everything-type. I got the single biggest compliment from him in my life, when he informed me that, “it is a book I would have bought myself, if I had known about it.” That was a total score, and I’m nearing the half-way point of my book. I would recommend both of your books. Douglas, great and important works. Thank you.

''A primarily english-speaking country problem'', he says. I wish that were so. I have just started a Humanities course in Spain and the main subjects of ''Introduction to history'' are: power dynamics, gender, racism, post-colonialism, slavery, and ecology. I even had to call out my own teacher for trying to teach 5 different assertions about american society's supposed racism that were total lies that can be demonstrated to be lies with simple statistics. Apparently all this bullshit has also infiltrated spanish universities and schools, if my past experience is to be trusted. I will have to finish this first year of university because of practical convenience, but I have already decided that I'm definitely dropping out next year and I won't be studying anything resembling the humanities.

@@023achilles I was not exactly surprised by this, because I've just been finding out about it since july, and I've been reading a lot since then. I'm just nineteen years old, it's not as if I had had a lot of opportunities to find out about it before. I got worried before the start of september, but I was hoping that perhaps the madness had no reached spanish universities yet. I was wrong.

Layers of accusations leveled at Western Civilization (with America established as the greatest villain in history) while all counter points are dismissed without consideration... Judgement of the long arc of Western Culture/historical figures, is measured only by the accepted social practices of today... No consideration for the short hard life, of most of humanity, until very recently... No consideration of the common brutalities that were part of "native" Cultures before their interaction with the West... No consideration of the reality of life on earth before global trade/ United Nations/global communication... Worst of all, the brutality of slavery, organ harvesting, child abuse, mutilation, amputation ,,,, capital punishment for crimes against Religion and Tradition, that are common TODAY in other Cultures, are not given a notice.... More important to pull down a statue of an Old Euro Male, who's life and historical context, is never thoughtfully evaluated... Inexcusable intentional ignorance in an era of instant information.

@@julias.9091 That's a wise idea. And at least you found out now, so you won't be wasting four years like a friend of mine did. Anything with "studies" in it is also just propaganda (Ethnic Studies, Women's Studies, etc.) It's sad, because there used to be some really good courses in the humanities that actually STUDIED issues, instead of indoctrinating students. A neighbor of ours, who's in her late 60s, took some useful and interesting humanities classes; but now the same university has been completely infested with post-modernist propaganda and she's glad her own daughter didn't go there.

true, but the more important bit is that woke identity politics, while providing meaning, is a path forged in the bureaucratic world of sassy backstabbing intellectuals, shaped not by the pursuit of truth, integrity, or progress, but by rote _effectiveness_ in this environment. It's a collection of rhetorical power plays. In short, the meaning provided is the illusory meaning one gets from sitting in an office all day playing minesweeper because you've tricked your boss into paying you for a job that doesn't exist.

I hadn't looked at that way yet and it's a scary thought to me because, what is the alternative? As in what alternative can we offer? The wokeness culture is obviously counterproductive and false but tbh in a way so is the current power distribution in society. It's not the best people rising to the top now. Not necessarily the most ineffective people, but also not the poeple with the best interest of society/humanity either. I'm thinking along the lines of the 48 laws of power and Daniel Smachtenbergers' game A / game B.

There is more to this than just saying it has been planted by the left. If this was the case then the huge majority of Labour voters would not have voted for the Tory Party, the so-called Red Wall in the North of England. So lots of people on the left also do not like this new woke culture. I believe it has been deliberately planted on us the people to fulfill the big ideas of people like Tony Blair and the EU leaders. It is coming from the top down. They have controlled the mainstream media with distorted and manipulated news. The main Metropolitan Councils are totally biased and therefore corrupt. Our Education system has been slowly and subliminally been fed a biased agenda in which over time has actually brain washed our children and young people to lead then to have only one truth at the exclusion of questioning and allowing debate of various differences of views and opinions.

We've had an epidemic of bad parenting for the last 30 years, so why would young people respect the parents who have cloyed and fawned at their feet for their entire live? Short answer: they won't. And they don't call it 'spoiled' for nothing, it's a irreversible process. And the very people who raised these kids to think themselves gods sitting in judgment on us mere mortals are the same managers and leaders we now look to to stem this tide. You think they're gonna tell these kids no, when they never have before. Hardly. If they'd ever told their kids they weren't always right, and to sit down, shut up, and think out a rational argument for their nonsense, we wouldn't be where we are now.

I understand very well the pain of living a meaningless life. I went through it myself when I was young. I remember asking, "What is the meaning of MY life?" only to receive a general philosophic, "No one yet has solved the Meaning of Life question." But does one have to pick up the meaning from the gutter?

Those who reject the existence of a deity must descend into nihilism, or else seek meaning and purpose in some style of humanism. And humanism takes many forms, some less benign than others.

The meaning of life is to glorify God. Jesus has open up the way for us by his death on the cross, forgiving our sins. A - admit you are a sinner before God. B - believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, that he loves you and died for you. C - call out to him and receive his forgiveness and ask him into your life. Countless millions have found meaning in their lives this Way.

@@Kurtlane He may consider himself a good Christian, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is one. He may not be any sort of Christian at all. It's impossible to tell via comment sections such as these, where people for some reason often feel the need to be confrontational and get one over on each other. If you take your views about Christians, or any other group, from KZbin comments, I fear you will end up with a pretty distorted picture.

Only one issue I would take with the argument on conservative complacency re: dealing with these issues. I think for every complacent conservative you have at least one conservative who buys just enough of what the woke left is selling to actually feel woefully unarmed to push back. They have been very successful in making cis-gendered white male conservatives, in particular, feel self dismissive.

My ground of comfort in politics is somewhere close to the centre. I will swing wildly left on the rare occasions they have something sensible to offer and wildly right on the rare occasions they have something not dangerous to offer but this is one of those rare people who I cannot help but nod along with as he speaks. What a mind this man must have - it resonates with me. I don't see him as right wing I merely see him as a source of common decency, common sense and a safer path to the future for all.

I agree with Murray in everything he says in this video but I think the ship has sailed on combating woke culture diplomatically. For likely hundreds of millions around the world, it won't matter WHY someone is attacking you, all that will matter is THAT they are attacking you. The pushback will be violent and is inevitable at this point. The activist left currently has the attitude of "bring it on" but their pompous arrogance will tempered when their side suffers actual losses as opposed to the ZERO consequences they currently enjoy.

The obsession with culture wars is making some people wealthy at least. The endless ringing of hands on issues that rise and fall, keep the proper topics of economic fairness, dignity of work or most importantly ecological deterioration off to the side. I'd love to hear Douglas's solutions for once, or for him to debate somebody who isn't stroking his ego. Douglas has an eloquence that turns niche politics into seemingly being the end of the rational world. The world of 'wokeness' is being propped up from both sides now. Talk shows need talk and Douglas needs attention and money. Just wish he'd use his intellect on something more meaningful.

What are those other, more technical books that Douglas mentions? Douglas's chapter on race in the book is not very technical. It goes through example after example showing how the Left's rejection of colour blind racism results in a new form of racism, contradictory claims in culture, and generally terrible behaviour, but it doesn't investigate the philosophical underpinnings of the Left's views in much detail (on this topic, anyway).

Hey Boris, you never warned us we would be refused permission to visit our dieing relatives. In fact we can't do anything now without prior permission and those rules seem to change every day. Call me crazy but I think we might have slipped into a dictatorship. I have noticed pensioners get arrested for protesting on their own, only two people can be seen together in public thses days. Sex between members of different households was banned a few months back. Speakers corner was closed down long ago, although the Mayor of London denies this fact. Many words are now considered hate crimes, even in your own home in Scotland. Technology is great now, but it allows private companies to monitor your every action, although the goverment promises it won't do that YET. Strangely most people seem to want even more of this because they want to save some elderly relatives they haven't seen for many months, you never know it might end before it's too late to visit them to say their final farewells.

Sorry but the response of mainstream conservatism, that we should all just go back to individualist liberalism, is not going to suffice. Individualist liberalism is what led us to this point in the first place. The only real response to anti-white, anti-male, anti-heterosexual identity politics is a positive white identity, a positive white identity, a positive male identity, a positive heterosexual identity, not denying them and claiming everyone should just be an individual.

The essence of the wokeness issue may be found in the work of philosophy of language of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who can be called the philosopher of Newspeak. The woke intellectuals who speak of white supremacy as the core problem are not using the term white supremacy in the colloquial sense in which casual listeners understand it but are instead using the term in a technical sense that is specific to their political arguments. In essence, they are using white supremacy (or racist patriarchy) as a synonym for what would colloquially be referred to as western civilization. After all, western civilization is, in origin, European civilization, and Europeans are typically Caucasians and therefore white. Beginning with the age of exploration that began after the Renaissance, Europeans developed a supremacy or hegemony throughout much of the world, and, it is in this sense that white supremacy is used as a technical term for what is more typically referred to as western civilization in casual conversation. The utility of using the technical term in statements made to people who don't understand the technical language is that it sounds much more acceptable to speak of tearing down white supremacy than of tearing down western civilization. In addition, accusations of various social institutions as being examples of white supremacy may not ring true to the casual listener, but they would ring true if the term western civilization were used instead. So, in this sense, the woke are being honest about their intentions. It's just that they are stating their intentions in coded language, in a kind of substitution cipher intended to mislead those for whom their communications are not intended.
