As a film editor I realize why even in the professional world we stick to analog...it works better. Sometimes digital sounds cleaner but most of the time it also has less S/N response because most consumer digital audio has limited bandwidth. The fact that you have to use a different remote for the volume to the powered speakers shows it's limits as well. Analog audio's signal ( bandwidth and voltage) directly correspond to the sound that the audio equipment emits. Frankly, digital audio signals are only useful with the I/O of computers. Otherwise stick to analog...your life will be easier.

What batteries does it need for the remote for the digital to analog converter ? I bought the energizer AA batteries but it was bigger than needed so it doesn't fit. The product description says AA batteries. What batteries are u using for this remote?

The fact that you can use the headphones AND listen through the speakers would be helpful for someone who has hearing difficulties. It means that one can listen through the speakers at the volume level they desire while the person with the hearing difficulties can listen at the volume they desire through the headphones. I wonder it it's possible to add a Bluetooth transmitter to the converter so you could use wireless headphones?

Hi! One question: which sounds better, the optical cable to the analog converter and rca connectors or use the TV headphones output with a 3.5 to rca cables to the sound system (my "old school" amp only has rca inputs)? Thank you!

I see you have the two bookshelf speakers on the left and right of the panel. Could I run center channel this way in an avr setup instead of a center channel in the middle. I wosuld run LR towers on the outside of both of them.

What's the difference in using a DAC or a HDMI cable?
@anamerican1054 Жыл бұрын
Here I thought that digital out was already converted to analog. I didn't know about that PCM part I'll have to see if my Samsung has that. I've been wondering if I need a DAC and that is how I got here. Would a DAC make the sound better from Hulu to Roku plus HDMI to TV, TV digital out to DAC, DAC to Onkyo HT?
@NikoNikolov2 жыл бұрын
Just to mention, the bass boost feature will color your sound (in case you are music nerd like me). But it is also good to have it.

Thanks for the video.. does a tv box like apple tv or Ruko improve the picture quality on a tv instead of watching Netflix for example through the tv app ?
@TechSteve2 жыл бұрын
Native apps normally look better, however you have to step up to Netflix 4k then the TV will look dark because of low Nits

I'm ole school Steve. KUDO'S to you for finding useful gadgets. I use optical on one of my sound bars because it doesn't have HDMI port. Optical isn't too bad for normal TV viewing. HDMI is better for movies and better quality TV shows.

@@TechSteve I agree Steve. I bought one of the first Samsung sound bars and I was shocked when I hooked it up it didn't have HDMI port. But no big deal I just hooked up optical and called it a day. Great video Steve, I have an older Pioneer receiver, Boston speakers, sub woofer etc. that controlled my surround sound system on my old tv many years ago. I haven't used it in years but it is still in tact and next my new LG OLED. If I buy this system will I get my surround sound back by hooking this up to my Pioneer RCA Cables? Hey, Tech Steve. I have my LG C2 tv hooked up to a Marantz stereo amplifier via optical out. Everything is hooked up tight and there are no loose wires or faulty wires. I experience sudden drop in the audio volume (for a millisecond) every now and then. There are no occuring intervals, just randomly. It's extraordinary irritating, and as of writing this comment, I opt to use the phono connection although I feel as tho I am missing some of the quality -- I may be wrong. Do you have any tips?

@@TechSteve I have a powered sub, and a BOSE soundbar that doesn't have any outputs... So I wanted to know if you can input with Optical to this box, then output to the soundbar, and also output to the sub using the RCA white and red ports? I'm not concerned about the RCA outputs to the SUB, I just wanted to know if this box will output to 2 devices at the same time, and from what I think you said and showed in the video, it looks like the box will output to the RCA jacks AND the headphone jack at the same time, so this should dual output correct?

I just purchased an LG tv last week, i brought a cheap $8 DAC and they worked well with my old Logitech 5.1 speakers. After two days the sound to the external was no longer working, The people at LG told me that DACs were not good to use and that it has to be a more direct connection with an optical connection. Any thoughts on this from anyone please? I believe something went wrong on the mother board but LG my not want to cover the warranty work.
