As a US citizen, I can say one of the best public goods we have is the Library of Congress. There is a ton of stuff there. Historical music Recordings, photographs, illustrations, just more than you can imagine. You can also find census records, immigration records, draft cards... especially useful if you live in US and are doing a family tree, you can often find most things without paying ancestry, just go to loc! And in many cases they have done OCR so the records are searchable to some extent (like can tell you what page and maybe what line to find what you are interested in.

Thanks for sharing, I didn't know it existed. I just had a brief look and there's some great stuff on there!! The Smithsonian opened their archives a few years ago and there are millions of pictures, posters, documents etc. that are free to download. Amazing what you can get with a click of a button nowadays :D

@@happygilder I bought a Chinese-made cutting plotter, and I have learned the method you taught to make glass for several Buddhist scriptures. Nice experience. I may be the first to do this in China.

I'd love to see how you set up your mirrors for the laser to get the right effect. Do you put anything on the back?

Hey Paul. I had replied when this came out on patreon, but I guess it didn’t stick. Lol. This is a great resource! These maps would look great in print alone. Thanks to you, I’ve learned to clean these up in Paintshop Pro and Affinity Designer. I downloaded a map from 1877 of the area I grew up in. It’s so interesting to see the names of residents at the time corresponding to the names of roads I know. A history lesson in map form! I’ll post something on Facebook soon. I want try to overlay a current road map layer, with the opacity turned down, over an old map. Should be interesting!

I bought that too when you mentioned it before. Everyone who sees it picks it up and is like wow, where did you get this? The calendar is pretty neat too.

Cracking vid Paul, I'm still trying to glue chip a lasered glass/mirror without success. I think the laser is melting the glass too smooth and the glue cannot grab it. Still it looks nice guilded or painted. Keep up the great work mate.
@happygilder2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ian! Yes I imagine the lasered surface is too smooth for the glue to grip. Have you tried doing it on a lower DPI?

Another great tutorial Paul. I was wondering what type of laser you use to remove the mirror backing? Fiber or CO2? Cheers.

Cheers mate!! I have a c02 laser :)

@@happygilder Thanks Paul. That's interesting, I thought I had read somewhere that you can't remove the mirror backing with a CO2 laser. I have access to a CO2 laser at my work, so I guess I'll give it a go. Cheers, Steve.
