Thanks for that, mate. I've been researching .22 Hornet ammunition and rifles, with a view to buying something like that and you've given me something else to consider. Knowledge is power! lol

I like the 22 Hornet. I have a k hornet rifle. Old 1915 single shot action . Drop block Stevens. With a martini cadet 22 barrel. My hornet is the short case chamber. Made short for revolver cylender lingth. Not as hot as the standard 22 k hornet. I will chanber for a revolver next.

My Zastava M-85 is a 1:16 twist. It seems to like the 35 Grain V-Max, and it doesn’t mind the 40 Grainers as well as the 45 grain Speer soft points. 50 grain Speer TNT Hollow Points we’re all over the shop, as were the Speer 33 Grain Hollow Points. Got an Anschutz 1434 that’s getting the “K” treatment as we speak. The 33’s will be used to fire form some brass, but I’ll just do some factory PPU ammo, as it’s just as cheap. Can only load with ADI 2207, as those other substances they speak of, like 2205 and Li’l Gun, are pure sorcery and totally unavailable. I’ll give the 50’s a go in the “K”, but I’m not overly confident.

November 2023: .22 Hornet is from 1920s. Longer ago than thought, it seems. K Hornet around 1940 according to an article by Dave Cambell. I do have a Ruger 77/22 in Hornet, and I am tempted to rechamber to K configuration. Haven't yet as one cannot go back. I must get it out to the range more. But it is currently too cold and I tend to be side tracked easily. I have done the trick of firing a cartridge in a slightly different chamber to alter the shape a bit. In the U. S., this is known as 'fire-forming' for what I hope is obvious. I would recommend annealing the case down, just past the anticipated shoulder as it helps forming without over working the brass. I really think I should start looking for a proper gunsmith for this job.

I'd go for a spare 22K Hornet barrel for the 77/22 as barrel change is simple on this rifle...

I have been looking at a 22 Hornet from Ruger and one from CZ. Now I might do a custom K Hornet-- need something small that will get good barrel life.

@@ozcountryliving4751 The Ruger here in the States is too much money -- for a few dollars more I would look at an Anschutz. The CZ's are only about $500-550 usd (street price). Thanks, and I will subscribe 👈

Hi Oz-man. I enjoy watching (and learning from) your vids on the .22 Hornet. I’ve been “rollin my own” .22 Hornet ammo for the past 30-years or so, but have just landed a HW66, that has been re-barrelled in “K”. I’ve not started reloading for it yet and wondered if I need to purchase a new set of dies to reload the cases once I’ve fire-formed them from standard .22 Hornet into “K”. Your advice would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Lee.

Gday mate. Thanks for watching. Yes you will need to get a specific 22K Hornet set of dies. They are made by many companys, Lee, RCBS, Hornady etc. The HW66 you have will impress you. They do benefit from a "Bedding" job of the stock. And if you are feeding the rounds from the standard 4 shot mag, they prefer to only have 3 in the mag. The 4th seems to get jammy. Also, being a European gun, all 3 of my Weihrauchs seem to prefer brass with a larger tapper on the bottom of the case rim. Like S&B cases. Cheers mate

@@ozcountryliving4751 Cheers for replying so quickly matey...Very much appreciated. I currently have a couple .22 Hornets. I had a Thompson Centre Arms Encore, Single shot for a number of years. Being a single shot, it had a long chamber which was great for using the longer bullets without the restrictions of a magazine. It was an absolute tack-driver, but having heard all of the rave reviews regarding the CZ 527, like a wanker, I sold the TC Arms. Biggest mistake I've ever made! The CZ shoots extremely well, but not as well as the TC did. I also have a Ruger Hawkeye M77 All Weather, but despite having a trigger job and the bolt shimmed, it doesn't shoot anywhere near as good as the CZ. I tend to run mine with 40 grainers, pushed by 12 ½ grains of lil gun, set off by small pistol primers. The HW66 that I have come by, was a shot out K Hornet, which I have re-barrelled using a Sako .222 barrel. The twist rate is 1:14, so it will hopefully perform well. Consumables such as propellent, bullets and primers have been a bloody nightmare to get hold of over here during the past six months or so. Currently, we have been told that it's likely to be another two years before large rifle primers start coming into the UK. Fortunately, I tend to buy in bulk and have 3000 sat in my safe for my larger centre-fires. I can't seem to find K hornet dies in the UK (that are currently in stock) so have today ordered a set from the USA. Should be with me in 10 days or so. Cheers again for sharing your knowledge on the “K". Best regards, Lee.

You never say what powder you are talking about at the end of your video. What type do you reload with? Was thinking about getting lil gun and trying that. What is your seat to depth for a 40 gr. Spire point Sierra or nosler bt?

I don't know how much understandable be a my comment as a question ... My question is if i want to buy 22 hornet I have to customise as a 22 hornet k ? Or I can buy straight 22 hornet k rifle all ready factory made with that chamber and will not need a Extra modification?
@ozcountryliving47513 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately i do not know of any manufacturers that make a 22 K Hornet from factory. You have to buy a standard 22 Hornet and have it converted. Usually costs around $50-$150 depending on your gunsmiths/gunshop charges
Hello, very Interesting Video! Good Job! Do you have the Stainless Match-Barrel? What's the Feeling of the Breech? Does it open and close as smooth as for example an Anschütz? Greetings from Germany
@ozcountryliving47513 жыл бұрын
The breach and action are every bit as smooth as an Anschutz. A very high quality gun. The 22K hornet is great improvement over the standard hornet
@ozcountryliving47513 жыл бұрын
The breach is super smooth. The bolt action is as smooth as an Anschutz. But the mag does not like to be loaded with 4 rounds, only 3. Otherwise the first round is a bit stiff to load
@Michael-rr8sc3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, so which brass is best for for 22k?
@ozcountryliving47513 жыл бұрын
G'day mate. Well all brass is going to work for the conversion. But Sellier & Bellot is good brass and cheap. Nosler is about the best, but you will need to aneal if first, as they can split when forming if you haven't done so first. All other brands seem to form up well without the need to aneal
@smallgamemafia2482 жыл бұрын
Can you just neck size brass after firing them to 22 k hornet. Do realise that trimming we always be there. 22 k dies are a bit pricey these days
@ozcountryliving47512 жыл бұрын
After fire forming you can neck size only if that is your preferred thing. Trimming the cases is greatly reduced as case stretching does not happen nearly as much as a standard hornet case
