Hi guys. Just a vlog on some work on the S6Lx Lacquer superlite. Its already lighter than normal Brompton, i want to convert it into S6Ex model which is sportier and lighter without hurting my wallet so much. Please take note that all the weight data are from internet. Result may vary. Cheer and be kind guys.

Hi, how about changing the forks and wheels to titanium and carbon one? I saw some titanium forks in Ali Express, the brand is Aceoffix, are they ok to replace the steel one?

Very nice, thank you. Presumably the new tyres are less puncture resistant? For someone as expert as you, this may not be a problem. But for the rest of us, particularly if we go on rough tracks, it may be. By the way, the voice over has a slight Welsh accent, which is quite nice :)

Hi sir. Thank you for your continuous support. Yeah, the tires are design for lightweight and very low rolling resistance. Not for rough tracks. For best puncture resistance, i suggest you go for marathon plus. But it come with a heavy weight “price” 1kg per pair!!! We win some, and lose some i guess. Yeah, i used a welsh voice over. Lol. I loved the accent. This is mainly because i have a heavy Malaysian accent, which can be hard for international viewer to understand. Again, Thank you for your support! Cheers.

I have been using Schwalbe durano racegaurd 20x1.1 tyres on my folder for the last 2 years. They weigh 230 grams each. And I've had 3 punctures in 2 years. Which is awesome. For the weight saving and speed they give me. Understand punctures are mostly a matter of luck so long as you aren't curb hopping And riding in the gutter and over sharp edged potholes. During that 2 year period I went 13 months without a puncture. Then got two in the 14th month. Thats how it goes. I always carry 2 spare inner tubes in my backpack. And simply change out the inner tube if I get a puncture. A 10 to 15 minute job. As the Durano's come on and off fairly easily unlike the Marathon plus which are a nightmare for most to change. So that's how you have to weigh things up.

Hmm. You mention "without hurting your wallet" but did you look at the cost of other weight saving options ? For example, seat post, pedals etc.
@orangbesar
@orangbesar 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you for the comment. Of course i did. If u see my other videos, i did changed the said parts. But a good light-weight seat post and pedal here cost a bomb! Compared to the things i changed and take out on this bike which isn’t that expensive. I know there are some cheeper options. But i don’t dare to replace quite important part of the bike with cheeper knock-off. I hope u understand. Thank you again for watching .

What seatpost do you recomend? I've heard that there are plenty ti seatpost whitout any kind of quality control, and may be dangerous
@orangbesar
@orangbesar 2 жыл бұрын
Hi sir. The original brompton seatpost are made from steel and its heavy. Even if u change to aluminium seatpost u can feel the difference. I am 6foot1inch. Usually i would go for extended seatpost like the liteskin. Or the telescopic like the Joseph Kuosac. And i dont quite convinced about the safety of carbon seatpost. As for recommendations, i would choose a well known brand and stay away from aliexpress knock off brands.

@@orangbesar thanks for your time. Can I ask you something that's bothering me? I buy a new superlight brompton and it seems to have some rust in the inner frame. It's looks a bit orange. It would be really helpful if in the next video you show the inside of the handlebar post and frame. It may be the natural color
@orangbesar
@orangbesar 2 жыл бұрын
@@agustinb.5923 unfortunately, even for superlite models, the main frame and stem are still made of chromoly. Steel. So, surface rust can be seen sometime. Acording to brompton, this is normal and won’t effect the structure integrity of the bike. What i usually do for my bike is, i spray the inside with WD40 smarts straw multi purpose spray. Here is the link wd40.co.uk/multi-use-product/smart-straw/ i will reapply it after every wet ride or when we wash the bike. Used the straw to get it inside the frame. I used this for the screws and nuts also. Just dont let it near the tires, brake pads and wheel brake surface ya? Hope it helps.

wow...900g means a lot to make the bike move up gradient easier..How much spending on this upgrade?
@orangbesar
@orangbesar 2 жыл бұрын
Hahaha. This is not that big of a upgrade. We can go further by changing the seatpost, pedals, and other stuff. But too light is not good for brompton i think. The weight makes the bike sturdy when cycling. For the spending JK saddle and grips are about USD70. E hook and fender guard by H&H is about USD60. Schwalbe Tan Wall is about USD70 a pair. Taking out the fenders. FOC. Haha. Thanks for watching mate!

I guess if I took half the parts off my bike it would be lighter… 🙄
@orangbesar
@orangbesar 2 жыл бұрын
I understand your point sir, but Brompton do have E model right? which is lighter without the fenders. The fender and rack are optional for the Brompton. And we have to pay extra. But now. Brompton just ask us to pay extra if we want to take out the fenders. Maybe where u at, fenders are a must. But here is Malaysia, we have very hot weather and we dont’t used Brompton during rains. Well some can afford to use this bike as daily commute, but most will keep this bike clean and dry. Because this bike cos $15,000 here. If u compare dollar to dollar. Where a can of coke and one burger only cos $2 here. To change other parts like wheel set, titanium parts, will set us more that $10,000. Please take this as a consideration. I understand, from your channel, u are a expert in bicycle. I would appreciate if u can share some good points instead of sass comments. I hope u have a nice day sir. And thank you.

Get a h&h carbon fibre seatpost and a 2 speed rear wheel it will guarantee a 1+ kg reduction

In Kuala Lumpur, the roads are so hilly. 2 speed external is not popular here. We need the BWR hub. 😝

This man with strange accent must be very rich. It doesn't stop the Brompton being twitchy. Ride a Dahon and the Brompton will spend all it's time folded up.

No doubt Dahon also have good lineups of nice bikes. But i guess its also depends of personal taste. Haha. Anyway. Thank you for watching the video. Cheers!

I don't think you have gained much the tires look ok and Brompton's need to stay as close to original as possible they don't need to much done it takes away the character and no mud guards is not a good idea especially on a expensive bike Brompton's are what they are a nice Bike just left standard that's just how i see it...

I haven’t officially weighed the bike yet. The data are from the websites of the products. I understand how u and some of the viewer feel about this. I have a few Brompton, and some i keep it stock and some i mod for extreme rides. This superlite model i like to make it as lite as possible without changing major parts of this bike. Thank you so much on your comment and input.
