In the early 70s, I had a CB 160 that would do a respectable 80 mph carrying my 6'4" frame. I had no idea that turbos existed but was well aware of Roots blowers from being a habitue' of Lyons dragstrip. I never saw one that would fit the 160 or I would have likely blown it up a few times while learning. I sold it and moved on to a 67 Superhawk. The engine VIN said CP 77 and the fella I bought it from said he was stationed in Japan and had ordered it straight from the factory with the racing engine and brought it home on his aircraft carrier. His badly broken (from skiing). leg made him sell it to me for $90. I rode and raced it for years until someone stole both it and my X6 Hustler. Either one of those would have been insane with a Roots. Now I have a project for my old age, thanks.

Just found your channel, definitely an interesting build. Built a pair of CB and CL 77’s when I was 14 that Dad gave me. Went to work for the local Honda dealership at 16, the owners had a wild collection. When customer work was slow I was tasked with maintaining and firing up bikes and 3 wheelers for the owners (5 brothers) to take out for the weekends. One of their coolest bikes is an RC50 that still remains unfired they bought from Hondas race program in the 60’s. One of the coolest projects I was able to build there was a supercharged CT70 for the oldest brother using an oversped ford escort smog pump and a 36 or 38mm mikuni. Your bike looks awesome for sure. The title had the description clipped off when I found it but curiosity got the best of me. I honestly thought I would be seeing you substitute a bigger carb and either adding another tank bung/ petcock or enlarging the existing one to increase volume on the fuel delivery side. I’ve actually been considering an injection system build to go along with a blower for the 106” HD Shovelhead I’m building now. This video has some great insight into the fabrication and thanks for the links you’ve added. Keep up the great work and keep us updated. 👍

I am currently working on a 1973 Honda SL125 that I plan to make into a road-legal TT "racer", I just love the look of that style of bike. I've been playing with the idea of boosting it using an AMR300. This series has given me huge insight into how feasible this might be and what potential issues may arise. Obviously there are going to be challenges exclusive to my bike, but I wanted to say thanks for putting this project out there. You're helping others learn without having to make the financial and time investments themselves. I look forward to watching you continue this project.

Funny you mention the TT racer "look". Originally when I started building this bike, I had planned on making it a TT racer replica. I love the look of them as well. I think you should absolutely throw a supercharger on your SL (but I may be biased lol). Thanks for the kind words and good luck with the project!

Would you or anyone out there have any recommendations where to buy an AMR300? I see them all over eBay and Amazon for a wide range of prices and most of them with the same descriptions and typos. I know AISIN doesn't sell directly to consumers and the only "legitimate" AISIN models are used ones from JDM Kei cars in unknown condition at twice the price of the (I'm going to assume Chinese) "remanufactured" AMR300's. Thanks in advance!

I had custom-built and road my dad's honda cd 70, always wondered to supercharged it but didn't commit to doing it because my buddies said it's not worth that much effort, time, and money. But watching your video today, I realized that if we always weigh the things we wanna do on the scale of worth, then I am pretty sure that living itself is too much effort, and yet we do it every day. So I will supercharge my 70cc honda, and if you could guide me, I would appreciate it.

I know you already made the swap to injection. I hope this turns out to be the way to go. I will be studying your set up so maybe I can do it to mine. With the carb.... There are two things that came to me that would affect the lean situation. This is what I have found from messing with Hondas for years now... on that style of carburetor, they hate those cone filters. The rubber mount on the filter blocks off the the ports on the bell of the carb. Those carbs like having a tube between the carb and the filter. Also, on those particular carbs, there is a hidden low end jet most people do not know about. I am sure you do but just incase you don,t.. it is located und the black rubber plug. You must use a tiny EZ out to remove it. The EZ out will not mess up the metering orifice of it. THey are press fit in. Those jets are always clogged and so are the passage way under the jet. Wish I saw these videos earlier. Maybe that was why you were getting the low end bog due to lack of fuel. Either way, excellent work!!! Super clean

Awesome content!! I want to add a supercharger (AMS500) to a Yamaha XS650. A lot of people say you can't do a draw through. I have seen draw throughs done on the Doctor Motorcycle youtube channel that work pretty well, but most of them were turbo bikes.

@kwaka140
@kwaka140 Жыл бұрын
I got really frustrated with Ecotrons right from the start. I asked specifically about handling 19k rpm and was assured it wasn’t a problem. It was. I’ve had a fuel pump failure as well where it slowly dropped the amount of fuel it pumped to the point it wouldn’t flow at 3bar. A regulator also failed slowly over time. I didn’t have a fuel pressure gauge so it took a year to find while I chased issues with ever greater injector pulse widths. I’ve been working on mine for 22 years approx. I went with a Link ECU for the support, plus the data log, and the ease of configuration. No regrets with Link

Love this project and the way you discuss your decisions. I Wonder which ECU you are going to use, and if the points are dismissed. The videos that Matt Cramer made using Microsquirt and Megasquirt ECU for his Honda Grom and bigger 4 cilinder Honda engine helped me a lot. I like to see how you will move on...

What fuel injectors do you use? I have now finish my CB250N supercharger build and started with a CB250N turbo build. My plans for my turbo bike is fuel injection with a Maxxecu ECU.

What is the tool used at the 9:57 mark to make the o-ring boss recess for the AN-6 ORB fitting after cutting the threads? I need to do something similar for a custom pressure regulator I"m adapting to my CX500 Turbo. Thanks!

@@vintageironmotorcycles Thanks. I may go with an AN-6 NPT fitting. I'm not confident in my ability to make an accurate recess for the o-ring with my limited machismo skills! :) Keep up the good work. One thing I know about FI is that it requires a robust battery and charging system with accurately regulated voltage. I'm sure you will address that. The CX500 Turbo even has voltage compensation built into the ECU.

Nice work, are you going to use one throttle body before the plenum? I'm not sure but I think two trottle bodies might be better so you have the plenum before trottle bodies and injectors. I'm very interested of this with fuel injection when I planning to do a CB250N turbo build and have thoughts about fuel injection on my bike. I think you still could get the bike running with the carb but you have to use stiffer throttle springs and mabye put som weigh to the trottle to slowdown the throttle lift to not lean out the engine, the you also have to reshape the throttle needle. I know this because of my carb issues to get my CB250 build with AMR300 supercharger to run properly. I
@vintageironmotorcycles
@vintageironmotorcycles Жыл бұрын
I'll be using one throttle body before the supercharger. Yeah, I definitely think I could eventually get it to run correctly, however I think I am better off with fuel injection in the long run. I also like to learn new things, so I am excited for this part of the project. Thanks for watching!
@geoffreymentink9570
@geoffreymentink9570 9 ай бұрын
Hi there, your explanation of why the engine goes lean is incorrect. It is not because the air has lower mass than the fuel. It is because when the throttle is closed, the manifold pressure is very low and any fuel coating the surfaces of the induction tubes after the throttle body will evaporate, which is why early emissions control devices on carbureted engines had a damper on the throttle to allow extra air to help burn this fuel when the throttle was closed. So, when you open the throttle on your engine, the first thing that happens is the fuel deposits on the walls of the inlet manifold, this leaning the mixture. This is the primary reason for an accelerator pump, to ensure a combustible (stoichiometric) mixture, not a rich one. You could have moved the throttle bodies to next to the inlet valves - a lot more straightforward. The inlet manifold is very long and includes the blower, this is the cause of your problem.

ok so check me out. you burnt the injector bung cause the angle of attack was working against you. If it were me id weld it so the Vband and bungs were facing you. engine side away from you. just like you see at 15:09 that way your torch is naturally pointed at the plenum not the bung. Also, dont worry about getting down into the gap, alu welds are pretty big so youll fill most of it anyways. Tack it all up. Attack the hardest areas FIRST. So weld a connection from bung to plenum at that trouble spot about 3 dips wide. do one side, then the other. go back to the first side, vband towards you start at the top of the bung furthest from you, weld towards yourself around one side till you get to that 3 dip spot you made. Stop. Weld the same on the other bung. Stop. Back to 1st bung. Weld the left side from tip back towards yourself to teh 3 dip spot. repeat on the 2nd bung, done. Im a fabricator and thats how i woulda done it.
