Would you mind telling me whether or not your file strokes are running at right angles relative to the bar? I get that you're following the witness marks on top of the cutters, but what I can't tell is if you're also adding a compound angle via an upward or downward motion of your file. Whats up William..i want to try to square file a chain so ordered a stihl file and it's a triangle shape..are those any good or should I try n find a double bevel like your using??

There are people out there that use a triangle file. Christ, Stihl sells them for that purpose. Just mess around till you get the angle right and go to town. I mean, all you are trying to accomplish is a sharp cutting edge and side plate. I say go for it.

@@williamprophett9148 is it a triangle file with just three sides or is it a triangle file with like the eight sides I use the eight side triangle file for out in the field if I need a touch-up well yeah after you play around with them for a while all files work let me know on your sharpen skills I like to hear from you

@@timhart2652 I'm using the 6 sided "goofy" type file. They are made for square filing chains...
