Sushi Zanmai is a big name in sushi in Tokyo, Japan - they have many branches around the city, some of them are sit down sushi restaurants, while others, like one at Tsukiji fish market, are conveyor belt sushi restaurants. I would say that it’s a medium quality sushi restaurant, pretty good for a quick sushi meal, and enjoyed by both locals and tourists.
I was filming with the Insider TV crew in Tokyo, and we stopped for a quick Japanese food sushi lunch at Sushi Zanmai - the conveyor belt sushi restaurant.
Overall it was pretty good and quick, and my favorite pieces are usually the fatty tuna (otoro) and the minced fatty tuna. The salmon with mayo and onions were also pretty good.
But be careful, conveyor belt sushi isn’t really budget sushi. Your bill can add up really fast!
Sushi Zanmai
Address: Japan, 〒104-0045 Tokyo, 中央区Tsukiji, 4−10−15
Total price: 13,986 JPY ($125.61) - 5 adults eating
My overall rating: 7/10
Thanks to Insider TV ( / ttvasia ) for lunch.

True about the kid, but he’s too young to know or enjoy anything, so his experience is pretty much not noteworthy.

Hey Mark..just some tips/advice ...don't wipe your face with the hot towel next time you're in Japan or Japan restaurant. It's for hands only - it's not a bathroom hehe ;) ...only gaijins do that. But a few natives do it too tho honestly (the ones that don't give AF tho). Just sharing some Japanese etiquette ;)

An all-you-can-eat sushi bars here in Ecuador cost 20$ per person. Not so much difference from these prices. But I'm almost sure they're not the same quality than the sushi in Japan.

Hi Mark. Thanks for another yummy food video. 👍🏻 But please don't use the hot towel to wipe your face. In Japan, it is used for the hands only. Saw this online: "Japanese restaurants often provide a small hot towel called an oshibori. This is to wipe your hands but not your face. You may see some Japanese wiping their faces with their oshibori, but sometimes this is considered bad form. When you are finished with your oshibori, do not just toss it back onto the table: fold or roll it up."

I have probably watched this video fifty times or more......It is the one that got me to try salmon sashimi and forget about my boring california roll......lol Before this video I couldnt eat raw fish. After seeing how much they enjoyed it.... I knew that I wanted that experience. Im not a tuna fan, but Im crazy for salmon..... I could eat it every day..... and shrimp and scallops.... Thank you Mark Wiens for making those wonderful satisfied faces that you make when you are eating the most awesomeness of any food..... If it wernt for you I would have never been able to or wanted to try sushi or sashimi.......

Depends on what type of food you are looking for but here are some I would recommend. Enjoy your visit to Texas and as we say down here, Howdy! Kula conveyor sushi - 2540 Old Denton Rd #140, Carrollton, TX 75006 Tokyo One- Roomy, casual eatery offers all-you-can-eat buffet of sushi, teppanyaki, tempura, ramen & desserts. 4350 Belt Line Rd, Addison, TX 75001 Hanabi - raditional ramen soups & Japanese small plates in a cozy, wood interior. 2540 Old Denton Rd #120, Carrollton, TX 75006 For more of a Texas style food experience I would suggest these. Pecan Lodge - For some good barbecue 2702 Main St, Dallas, TX 75226 Famous Dallas burger Keller's - 6537 Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75231 Lastly for some good Tex-Mex Ojeda's - 4617 Maple Ave, Dallas, TX 75219

Edmond Buenviaje Just guessing but the plates could have RFID chips embedded that identify with plate it is and the price. The scanner then reads each chip and adds up the total.

Tiffany H. You're right they have a chip (but forgot what kind of) so they scan them, I saw a documentary about a big kaiten sushi chain-restaurant where you don't see the chefs only the plates moving around, and the sushi plates also get sorted out automatically from a machine when they are too old (too long on the converybelt) by passing by the machine, so they even can scan how long ago they got prepared. Awesome! :D

Mark, some friendly advice: When you eat sushi, don't dip the rice part in the soy sauce. It goes on the fish not the rice.
@mooncake5016

Yes I agreed with you in a way. Look, that's just conveyor belt sushi restaurant. They'd expect customers to be casual and have fun. Many non-Japanese travelers would dip the rice to soy sauce. The fact is that no dipping soy sauce or wasabi is needed if you are having really really hi quality sushi from sushi chefs in front of you.

Robert J. Holtz Agree Actually has to dip the ginger into the soy sauce first then put it on the sushi

Fong Xc - Thank you for agreeing but, with all due respect, your advice is also very wrong -- actually worse than dipping the soy sauce on the rice side. Gari (sushi ginger) is for cleansing the palate between the eating of different pieces of sushi, or alternatively before or after the meal. It is considered incredibly rude put ginger on your sushi. The chef has undergone rigorous training to achieve an artful balance of taste and texture for you. The purpose of the sushi ginger is to reset your tastebuds in order to experience that balance to the fullest. It is also a natural antibacterial. Sushi ginger is NOT a condiment. It is eaten straight and on its own. No dipping and no topping of any kind.

Actually if you are eating the gunkan sushi, which is the side wrap nori, the traditional way and acceptable etiquette to eat it is by using the ginger as a brush or to drop the soy sauce over the fish. For nigiri sushi yes you have to dip the fish not over the rice, and use ginger to clean the palate.
