I got r word by a kick boxer on samui at 17(48 now) in My beach hut , I'd run away from home (Singapore) and knew samui from family school holidays abroad and was there for 3 months. I ended up unwittingly taking H with some hippy type island boys smoking it in their bong. Kicked off a 13 year habit. I understand the freeze state one goes into .it's survival.I understand the shame of not fighting back. .it was both one of the worst times in my life and also the best (freedom to be oneself where no one knew me) Well done for turning the trauma around Leon 🙏❤ I experienced great kindness from many people there though , taken care of by some Thai lady boys , who fed me and lent me their make up lol after all my money and some belongings stolen.Enjoying this pai series !

All I can say is WOW cudos to you for sharing Leon's story which has given me a outlook of how much struggle some people go through, including yourself. Its great to hear your story, thank you for sharing. It gives me hope as I'm currently getting sober with the plan to travel and possibly move to Thailand one day. Ive been sober since January from tobacco, cannabis, alcohol and everything else i managed to get hold of. I'm aiming to be off buprenorphine by the end of the year (Ive been on it many times for opiate addiction). This is the first time ive really committed to being sober and managed to find some trauma therapy that ive been unable to get on the NHS (I'm in Newcastle Upon Tyne). It was ego death on psychedelics that stopped me from trying to end myself repeatedly but deciding to sober up 'properly' took me many more years to even believe could be possible! Fear can be so powerful! Its crazy how paralysing fear can be but the natural high of pushing through those fears is amazing. Im 41 and still at the beginning of learning who i am and want to try doing things on my own rather than being dependant on others to do everything. I loved helping people but pulled back due to hurt/my lack of boundaries but would love to find out my purpose in helping others when im stronger.

Very interesting and as mentioned Leon was very good at relaying his story. I think a lot if us have been through some kind of addiction in our life's, with myself it was , like you Ryan alcohol. I was sober for 25yrs and recently have started to drink again but I consider my drinking now as more social than probmatic. Still having said that I realise I still have that addiction and some control needs to be exerted to prevent myself relapsing back into my old ways. Thanks for sharing Ryan

Just turned sixty this year and 18 years sober myself this year. I started my sobriety in Thailand while living in Mukdahan north east Thailand. I became a monk for a short time on the advice of a very dear friend. that was the start of my recovery from the grip of alcohol. Massive respect Leon, you're a very smart bloke. You've made amazing progress very fast. I would highly recommend getting Michael Singer into your life - he explains the deepest shit of life better than anyone else IMO. He's a yogi and also a highly successful businessman, he fills in the gaps that all the psychologists miss. It's not religious, just eternal wisdom. There are tons of his talks on here, and interviews/podcasts. Trust me, I promise! All the best mate, enjoy Thailand. Slow life in Northern Thailand and especially the natural beauty of Pai has a healing capacity all of its own. I think the most important aspect of this is that he's managed to physically take himself away from his hometown and has space to develop and heal in his own way.🙏🙏🙏
