The thing I liked most about this judge is that she ordered that Darrell have his earnings garnished by 50%. So, unless his mother gives him money - which she might - everytime he goes to the commissary to buy snacks and stuff, he'll have a lot less. He'll look at the person in front of him in the queue and the person behind him, and notice he has a lot less than them. He's going to be uncomfortable for the rest of his life.

And I honestly hope that child support takes the rest. This man somehow has 4 children, all whom he is not supporting financially. I hope they take the rest of the commissary for child support. I’m guessing his mom and possibly female family members, girlfriends or friends might pay on his books. So half goes to his victims, and the other half to his children and he’s left with nothing. Because that’s what he deserves.

I can't be sure of this; but I think Wisconsin has what are known as "Son of Sam" laws in place to forbid criminals from profiting off of their crimes. These laws were passed in the 1970's and 1980's out of the fear that David Berkowitz aka the Son of Sam might possibly seek a book deal or movie contract and thus profit from his crimes. Many state level Supreme courts have struck down Son of Sam laws as unconstitutional. With regards to "Son of Sam" laws it is a very delicate balance between freedom of speech and profiting from tragedy.

Life in prison without parole and no commissary just might be a fate worse than death. Darrell Brooks definitely deserves either one.

He still gets commissary it's just 25% of it gets deducted. Will hurt as he doesn't earn much anyway and as DA opper said it's a constant reminder to him of what he did and that he needs to pay for it...
