Last weekend we made the journey, 9 hours in the car from Adelaide, to the opal capital of the world. Coober Pedy only has a population of 2000 people but it just goes to show the community spirit when even a small town like this is willing to show up and bring us a parkrun, each and every Saturday.
Thanks to the volunteers
We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Jacqui BOLAND, Kate BROWNHILL, Lisa BROWNHILL, Mark BROWNHILL, Richard BROWNHILL, Chevahn HOAD, Anonymous VOLUNTEER, Kathleen WOODLOCK

Well that’s put Coober Pedy firmly on our ‘to do’ list. Congratulations, Luke and Kellie, on regaining statesmanship. And woo hoo, awesome work on your 100 parkruns, Kellie. 🎉

Wow the red sand and the blue skies. Great video, Guys and hats off to driving 9 hours, I would pass 250 parkruns in that time in the UK.

Another great Parkrun video. That looks like a stunning location. I imagine it would get pretty hot but beautiful nonetheless. Well filmed.

Glad you got up there before summer hit. A bit greener than I thought it would be, even for this time of year.

😂😂 so are we, if it wasn’t for the 35k an hour winds, we would have cooked! It’s been a bit too wet lately up there, they can’t seem to win 😂

I can’t remember what happened that day 😂😂 sometimes it’s a case of getting caught up talking to people, forgetting and then running out of time.

Do you have any tips for getting a better time?

Howdy, firstly thanks for watching the video, secondly ABSOLUTELY! Regardless of your fitness level, I always recommend warming up prior to a parkrun. You don’t want to take off from the line with cold muscles and lungs. Depending on your weekly mileage, I personally do 3ks normally before but you may just do 500m or a k if parkrun is a longer run for you. You can also incorporate into your warm up some strides, so at the end of your warm up, 25 meters of really getting those legs moving (ideally at a sprint) just to stretch the legs but not too far that you run out of breath. Do these a few times, it’ll make your normal pace seem slower. For increasing times consistently, weekly intervals will help. My favourite session is 5x1k, so run hard for a k (faster than your parkrun pace), rest for 2 minutes and repeat this 5 times. If you’re new to intervals, maybe start with 2x1k and increase each week. These weekly intense session will be key in increasing the paces you’re able to maintain A final thought is your weekly mileage, typically any increase will benefit your speed. Now it doesn’t mean all your running needs to be faster runs, do your interval session, and keep every other run easy, you want to avoid the ugly middle ground of not pushing hard enough and not running easy enough. With keeping your runs easier (slower) you will recover better allowing you to increase more and more without being fatigued. Easy rule of thumb, is don’t increase overall mileage by more than 10%, a week, it’s easy to overdo it when you’re feeling good, and that’s when injuries happen Hope it helps

Thank you for that, I will definitely try and remember all that and tell you how it goes and I really love what your doing, keep it up. For me I haven’t really been a long distance indurance based runner, I’ve really been a short distance power and explosive speed I’ve played football here and there but that’s about it
