Press straight down...while you are sort of rocking the stamp as you press. Lol!

I just made shortbreads with these, it works ok and does make a nice thick cookie. Rather large for shortbreads in my opinion, and are very prone to sticking to the stamp rather than the pan, even with oil and an ungreased pan.

I'm wanting to use these with a shortbread dough, which I usually cut into thicker pieces. Can I start with a bigger ball to make them thicker?

The Halloween stamps recipe shows multi-colored cookies. I understand using the stamp as a mold, but then how to you release the dough from the stamp? They don't bend like silicone molds do.

Why would you want a recipe for a cookie you haven't tasted? Makes no sense.

​@@OMGWTFLOLSMH so you know the texture will be good. Sometimes cookie dough is really sticky and some cookies expand when baked which would ruin the design.

Is there something else I can try-mine keeps getting stuck to the stamp. It won't separate.

Hi Mary, there are a couple of ways to help prevent the dough from sticking. First, make sure the dough you are using is chilled. Depending on the recipe, the dough could be very sticky if at room temperature. When ready to stamp, one way to prepare the stamps is dip in flour and then stamp the dough balls. If making sugar cookies, you can even roll the dough lightly in flour. If making chocolate cookies, try coca powder instead of flour. Another way is to roll the dough in white sugar and place on cookie sheet and stamp from there. You can even spray each stamp with baking spray that contains flour and stamp from there. The flour on the stamp seems to help on the chilled cookie dough. I'm using the cookie dough recipe on the cookie stamp box and it doesn't keep the imprint after baking. I am currently freezing the cookie after stamping it. I am thinking that It will go directly into the oven will help keep its shape. I really want this to work but maybe peanut butter cookie dough wasn't a good start. thanks for the phone number! I will continue trying.

After three recipes and using flour on the stamp, I’ve solved the sticking issue but the design doesn’t hold when baking.

For peanut butter cookies? They're so oily they don't need it. Some people don't use it because it's wasteful. I use it at work because we do too much volume not to, but at home I use silicone or nothing.

I wanted to try the Halloween ones on shortbread dough but I worry it’s too crumbly - what do you think?

You can make soft shortbread. That's not crumbly at all. Also if you sub gran sugar for powdered you should be able to press. I only do crumbly if I'm dipping in chocolate or catering a tea or something, so my shortbread is usually soft enough for press. I think your idea will be beautiful 😊

How do you get the multicolored cookies shown in the photo with this recipe? I understand that you can add gel food coloring to the cookie dough but how do you color the designs in the cookie with a different colored background?

You could transfer the cookies to parchment paper after you stamp them. If you stamp them on the paper, the dough will be hard to remove.
