In Australia, we had home economic, but the types of life skills were split into half a year for each. We did sewing, cooking, metal work and wood work. Only cooking is the actually useful one because I haven't used a sewing machine since I tried making a costume for a school carnival, and failed horrendously. Yay for the entire world's choices on their independent school systems.

Not being afraid of messing up is a pretty integral part of becoming a good cook - I was so terrified of oversalting food when I started out that I just didn't add salt or pepper (in my mind there were natural salts in ingredients, no idea where I got that from). As soon as I started using salt, pepper, spices - I took off. Failures are lessons - just pay attention to what you did, learn from them, and you're good.

Hey Boris, So in the US we refrigerate our eggs for the entire shipping process, and when you boil a chilled egg, sulfur can build up on the outside of the yolk, leading to an unpleasant green ring. The ice water bath trick came from the US, and it's done to prevent the buildup of sulfur so the yolk stays yellow and delicious-looking.

The bay leaf ratings are going above reactor 4 water levels.
@lukadimitrijevic1486
@lukadimitrijevic1486 4 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: If the three guys who volunteered to go to remove all the water underneath the reactor didn't do that there would be an explosion that would destroy anything in the radius of 700 km. The reason of the explosion would be that the things that powers up the reactor and the "ingots" got stuck and melted, that kept the high temperature and created magma with the temperature of 3000 °c and that would melt the concrete floor underneath it and touch the water that would be like an pressure cooker (express pot) without the lid. That would create an enormous amount of steam that would contain the radioactive substances.

I remember once my mother and I were boiling eggs, and we got distracted with doing work in the kennels... on our way back to the house, both of us suddenly shouted in horror, "oh no, the eggs!" and we ran back as quickly as we could, but too late. As it turns out, if you leave the pot on for too long, water boils off, and eggs become tasty grenades. That was when I was 13, at 28 I was helping my sister replace the kitchen lighting as part of a birthday present. I'm pretty sure those odd stains were from that fateful day, but you never know with that woman.

In fact the thick accent makes it easier for non native english speakers like me to understand him as his word pronunciations are markedly clear with decent spacing between each words. Try talking from someone from the southern parts of the US, they tend to sound like they are slurring their speech, like they are trying to get all the words out without pauses in between and with not much emphasis on the words. It can be confusing as hell.

the way my mum taught me to boil egg... this makes a solid yolk put eggs and water in pot bring them to a boil (yes put the eggs in the water before you put pan on the heat) once the water is at a rolling boil, set a timer for one minute. after one minute of boiling take the pot of the heat and set a timer for ten minutes. after ten minutes rinse the eggs in cold water (so you don't burn your hands) peel the eggs and enjoy.
