I SO have to try this for my 87 year old Mother in law she is true southern from Georgia most her life so she always asks me to make southern food for her so i am always looking for great southern dishes, every one i have done from Debbie's Back Porch she has loved and she is VERY Picky!! Thank you Debbie please keep making the videos so I can keep making outrageously superb food!!

She turned 87 in January 2017, she was just wandering if you were born southern or moved southern. We also tried your omish onion patties she loved them so much she said she wishes she had some pork chops onion gravy to go with it lol, told her not today.

I make something similar with chickpea flour and baking powder, as my mother has issues with wheat flour and but adding mild madras curry power, chopped coriander / cilantro they become Indian onion bharji's. One thing i like to do is soak the onions in the buttermilk beforehand, if preplanned overnight if not 30 minutes. Thanks for the video take care and God bless.

She just developed allergies about 5 years ago. No peanuts or corn. I fry in sunflower or grape seed oil and avoid packaged foods that seem to all contain corn in some form. She has a severe skin reaction when she eats either. She ate some fried squash at a church dinner the other day, not thinking about the cornmeal breading and was miserable for days.

Thank you so much for this recipe. This is an appetizer that is a great add on to other appetizers. So much can be done with this.For example off the the top of my head....Greek yogurt dip with fresh dill and fresh garlic and s&p and a little lemon juice. I don't care for Stevia. I used Splenda.

You could add caramelized onions if you like, but it would have a totally different texture. This is more like onion rings. the onions still have some texture.

Looks really good, I'm going to make some but what is the heat setting on your burner? Medium high? Thanks for your video's!
@DebbiesBackPorch7 жыл бұрын
Joseph, I went from med. High to medium as time passed. I have a high btu burner so I have to be careful not to overheat. I show how to test for heat. I adjust as I go, but medium high should work on a regular burner. If you want to check with a thermometer, go for 350 to 360 degrees.

can you carmalize the onions for this recipe..and put a little grated cheese in to???
@DebbiesBackPorch6 жыл бұрын
I can't say because I have never tried it, but now that you mention it, I think I will. Sounds good. On the caramelized onions, my thoughts are that it would change the flavor and texture a lot. In this recipe, the onions have a light taste and are still a little crunchy. Caramelizing them would change that a lot. Sounds good, but very different. I would be light on the cheese, too. Frying fritters with cheese in them can get messy. Still, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Debbie's Back Porch We went through Vidalia Ga,in 1981 to my Great grandparents 50th anniversary in May that year.My mother and I bought 2- 50lb bags of Vidalia onions ( May is the month!)and we enjoyed them meal after meal! True Vidalia onions can be eaten raw just like an apple,and sweet as can be! Here in Texas sometimes 1015Y variety is said to be Vidalias but are no comparison..
