When I am on the road, I'm a one meal per day traveler. It is so easy to over eat and eat wrong when on the road. I also feel better without that bloated feeling. Nice review too.

Oh, OMAD. It’s a thing, one meal a day. I’m already down to 2 meals a day. One meal would help with weight, costs and ease.

My van has a 12v plug in the rear as well as two in the cab. This would be great to do while driving, I would contain it. I could just use the engine and save solar. Food ready when I arrive at destination and since “set up” is literally parking, that would be awesome. I do have a digital thermometer to check cooking/final temperature.Thanks for showing. I’m a master with a crockpot and was wondering about a 12v version.

I'm glad you liked it. I was surprised how well it turned out. Gave me some hope that slow cooking is a viable option.

Really like this viedo. I too have the road pro. I’ve cooked a few dishes in it. If you have any more cooking show, van life, crock pot videos it would be appreciated. I love you van.

Yeah it looks like you need to look up some design for a cooks table for a sailing ship or such, people should never watch cooking videos when they are hungry, that looks so good. Great video, thanks.

Looks like a good idea: corrall to keep slow cooker safe. Did you say it was a 12 v?
@SilverCabin

Yes, 12v. It actually worked pretty good.

I realize it's cold where you are but did you notice if the 12volt crockpot created heat in your van? We have 3 adults & a medium size dog in a 30ft toy hauler in SW Florida and our roof AC just quit cooling. Our crockpot makes alot of heat (not as bad as the oven or stove) I would rather use the microwave but that is rather limiting. Thank you James, Iris 🙋

It doesn't generate heat compared to a butane burner. Extremely mild in comparison. Also much safer.
@SilverCabin
@SilverCabin Жыл бұрын
@VantablackPeterS creating heat via electrical means is expensive. It's a slow cooker and the heat it generates is marginal.

Looking at reviews for 12v appliances. Vacuum sealed dry meals would be great. Just add water, secure cooker & lid. Cook while traveling 😊 ..

Agree, rather than bring wet food, pack dehydrated meals. Put into a food flask, add boiled water, wait 40 minutes or however long it takes to rehydrate your meals, eat. Clean up simple too.

So what was it that you cooked, it looked like beef stew? Was that from the frozen section at Walmart? I've never seen anything like that at Walmart. 😀I might need to get a 12v slow cooker, after I get my solar set up.
@SilverCabin
@SilverCabin 2 жыл бұрын
I used this as the starting point - www.cookingclassy.com/slow-cooker-beef-stew/ ...but without all the fancy ingredients. I just used what I had. My next one will be better. I wanted to see how well it would cook. It turned out better than I expected. My goal is to be able to prep meals where I just empty out the contents, set it, and forget it. I understand that will limit my meal options, but van living / travelling sometimes requires that, especially with my minivan.

So 6mth on what do you think to the slow cooker as am looking to get myself one ?
@SilverCabin

First off, the meals and soups made with it are legit delicious. If I have to drive a long distance, I set it up and it cooks while I drive. Plug it into the cigarette lighter. So as a way to cook, it works very well. The downside is it takes a while. Not something to use when you are really hungry. It's a slow cooker and that's what it does. This winter, I already know I'll be cooking up soups while I'm at work and will have a hot meal ready on my break. I've made a custom timer and that's been really useful as well. Cleaning it is a pain. So use slow cooker bags so you can just empty it out and wipe it down afterwards. They have been really useful.

Hmmm I have to make a lots of stocks for my health and in the lead up to doing this in my minicamper i am liking the idea to have it running whilst i drive - it needs 3 hours cooking on a slow simmer. It would have to be a much bigger slowcooker though - 5 litres or it’s not worth it. Will a bigger one still work ok do you think?

Cooking smaller batches works well if you consume it all and don't have to worry about storage. Dry food is good for storage long term and easy cooking.....just add water...all in your slow cooker...mouth watering taste....

@@SilverCabinYou can cook anything in a slow cooker except if you want it crispy. As long as you reach the temperature for the type of meat you are cooking it is safe. You can also bake cake, muffins, bread...internal temp. Is 200F to 205F. Use a tin can that fits and put something in to hold it above the floor of you slow cooker. Don't open the lid too often because it takes alot of time to rebuild the heat back up. Dry foods store very well and cook well also.

Just add the rice to the slow cooker about 2 hours before the timer sounds.

It's a road pro and while it does cook meats, it takes a while. It's better for soups, rice, and dishes that don't require heavy cooking. If you are going to do ribs or anything else, they need to be par broiled first. Aside from that, nothing like, making soup while I drive to my camp / destination and then have a hot meal when I get there.

He has one that is the classic slow cooker. He plugs it into an inverter. Much better than a 12v. I don't have a lot of battery.
