Another trick with the hole saw is to brace the bottom with a block of wood. This allows you to keep your hands and fingers away from the saw blade, but still provide positive pressure while drilling. It also prevents tear-through on the back side.

Is the spinner strong enough to work through the book without cutting out the hole? Or maybe a thin sheet of modeling plastic over the cover of the book before you put the crepe paper on it? Just trying to think of ways to avoid the dip in the cover. 🙂 Cool item though. Definitely going on my wish list.

A piece of paper is about as thick you can go. Because your bottle has the glass it goes through too. You could definitely test it out though.

Great video! I love all the ideas you have for the bottles. I worked in a lab at a gold mine for 30 years and we used these everyday. When I made my display I used a plug in with a timer so it turns on/off on its own. The plug in is stronger so no need to drill the top hole in the book. It is a bit more expensive, well worth it tho. I also use a glass skull instead of a tall bottle. Thank you for taking so much time out of your day to give us your take on creating all these amazing items! I am working on having a light go up into the glass potion bottle. I will have the skull mixing on one side and the lighted potion bottle on the other side.

Be sure to store any hot glued items in a temperature controlled environment. I forgot to mention, not all glue is created equal. Here in the hot country hot glue does not work so well. The temperature goes up to 120 degrees in the summer so anything stored in a shed will fall apart. I use both E6000 and hot glue. Hot glue holds quickly and E6000 withstands the temperature changes.
@RobertA-hq3vz Жыл бұрын
I'm thinking print the label on plastic transparency not paper, so that you have a clearer vision on the bottle. Also, if you can turn on the spinner for 1 second every minute it will create a better effect as well as save your battery by a factor of 60, but that would require a special circuit as that spinner doesn't appear to have that function.

Could anyone suggest a color combination that has a Christmas vibe? Also i there any way to make this light up? Thank you for this wonder video and any help you or others can offer.
@CookingandCraftChick3 ай бұрын
@@GaryShelton-dg7xs you could definitely add light around the inside edge of the circle on the book, most likely with fairy lights. I do several potions where I use a lighted coaster, but I’m not sure if the spinning mechanism would work with it. As for the potion, I think it’d be really cool to do a lighter green color or a bright green color to a deep red or a red to gold. I have several Christmas themed potions, you should go check them out. I have a naughty to nice potion, I have potions based off of the Christmas Chronicles, etc.. 😊

I love this bottle. I have two comets so to speak. One is why change the color if your going to keep it swirling?? Two is can you put two different power colors in a bottle to spin or will they just mix into one color? Anyway it's a cool bottle. Thanks for your time in showing how to do it. Lovely.
@CookingandCraftChick9 ай бұрын
They will mix into one color. It’ll change once you turn it off and let it settle. Then change again when you turn it on.
@Michelle-vp1fr9 ай бұрын
Yeah I kinda figured that they would mix into one color. But thanks for answering that. But if you want it to run for a party and so you don't turn off, that's why I said why change the color. But anyway it's a cool way to show them off during a party.

Is it better to use rubbing alcohol or just plain water? Should glycerin be added?
@CookingandCraftChickАй бұрын
@@BlueHatter plain water will get gross over time. You should use distilled water if you are going the water route, also you’ll either need to add a little alcohol or glycerin to it. I personally prefer alcohol you get nicer swirls and it stays clean.

Love your work, but you should give credit where credit is deserved…..Wicked Makers
@CookingandCraftChick Жыл бұрын
Yes wicked makers made a spinner like 2 or 3 years ago that was a handmade motor in a carved out book. I used a magnetic stirrer which has been around for decades, I used a book box because it makes sense with potions to have books. They are not the same. Besides they didn’t give credit to the “videos of potions with alcohol and mica or water and glycerin” credit either. No idea will ever truly be new it’s just your take on it. The execution of mine is not the same; not to mention mine is more easily created for non-engineers.

How many drops of glycerin do you use? I made 2 small potion bottles, tried to do the color changing, used the 70% isopropyl alcohol food coloring and mica powder, but they don't look the same. I think I need to add a few more drops of glycerin but how much is too much? I want that beautiful silk like look to the liquid.
