Can you use half vanilla extract and half banana extract?

Most definitely you could use it it would give it an elevated banana taste.

@CookingwithManualFocus I'd think it would be a more true banana pudding, instead of vanilla pudding with bananas. My concern is whether it would be an overkill on banana flavor. I'm going to try it this weekend. Only I'm going to use homemade whip cream instead of cool whip. (I already have the ingredients and it only takes 5 minutes to make)

Good gosh! That looks lip smacking, finger, licking good. I don't believe I've had it with Cool whip in it. I think I'll give it a try. I haven't had banana pudding in a while now. Looking at the video I can almost taste the banana pudding.

That's not real old-fashioned banana pudding. Because he did not make the meringue for the top of the banana pudding.

Personally, I prefer homemade whip cream in banana pudding, but meringue in a banana cream pie

There is too much milk in this recipe compared to the rest of the ingredients and it won't thicken! So much for banana pudding for Thanksgiving.

Sorry it did not turn out for you fam. How long did you let it cook? You can always add an additional TBSP of cornstarch to help get it thicker. So a couple things could have happened either the custard wasnt cook long enough or did not have time to setup. Once it cools it needs to be placed in the fridge for 4 hrs. Again sorry it didnt work out for you.

Or, you could revise your recipe to use less milk. Other pudding recipes call for 2 cups of milk with the same amount of other ingredients, so you need to revise your recipe before someone else's dessert is ruined. I cooked it 30 minutes, added many extra tablespoons of corn starch, and left it in the fridge for 2 days before pouring the liquid down the drain.

I made this for my family this thanksgiving it came out perfect. I followed the recipe too. Not quite sure what happened with yours. If you added many table spoons of cornstarch at some point if you are cooking it the mixture would thicken and become too thick. IMO

I am wondering the same thing. Every other recipe calls for half the milk you listed.

With other recipes its the same ratio of milk to cornstarch/flour. So you could always trim the milk. I was making bigger portions than 2 cup recipes.
