How to make Flat Iron Steak! (That Melts in your Mouth)
I mentioned I took the steak out 1 to 2 hours ahead of time.*
Update: Take the Flat Iron Steak out of the refrigerator for only about 30 minutes ahead of time to allow it to come to room temp.
If you buy a full length flat iron steak cut it in half.
Rub it down with olive oil and season it with a mixture of
1 tsp. pepper / 1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder / 1/2 tsp. sea salt
Put a thin layer of olive oil in a non-stick frying pan and bring it
to high heat and cook the steak for 1 minute on each side.
Reduce heat to medium heat and turn the steaks every minute
a total of 10 to 12 times to reach medium rare. Longer for medium.
Remove the steaks and put them in a shallow dish and cover loosely with aluminum foil and let rest for 10 to 15 minuets.
Slice 1/4 inch thick. (VERY IMPORTANT) make sure you cut the
steaks across the grain (NO LENGTH WISE)
Serve with salad and baked potato! Enjoy!

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing! My husband's name is Steve, as well, and he loves to show me his love for me via the kitchen as well. When we became empty nesters and his health became to fail, he had to get a feeding tube. I saw no reason to enjoy food whatsoever anymore. He hated to see what was happening to me and started fighting to be able to eat a little again. Tonight he made our ham dinner. What a sweetheart. To give back to him, I'm going to try making this! Thank you so very much, Sheila, for sharing your husband with us!

I love cooking this meat. The first time I saw this video my mouth was watering!! Sadly, in Scotland our entire steak is only about half the size of one of those pieces!! The American's look to have bigger cows than we have!! I was late to the party with Shotgun's videos but go back and watch different old ones. I love just listening to the big man talk away as he cooks. He is sadly missed.

I would have to get a least (2) that weigh at least 2 to 2 1/2 pound each. My gandson who will soon be 9 years old can eat at least a 1/2 pound, along with at least 1/2 pound of famous sauted mushrooms. I use Cabernet Sabranon (red wine) and butter. He mentioned paying 5.99 a pound for this steak (in 2018). I just bought a flat iron today, 2021, for $17.99 a pound! Tip: A few sprigs of thyme, a couple cloves of garlic and a sprig of rosemary in that butter you added to the pan, gives it a wonderful flavor!

Four years ago Kroger had them buy one get one free! $7.99 PER POUND! I have not found Flat Iron steaks at Kroger often in the past year and when I do they are $12.99. But yea, flat iron steak can be very tender and arguably the best flavor.

Oh if y'all are interested. Baked potatoes. Take your taters. Wash. Take fork or knife and make some holes. Place in big bowl. Take some olive oil and pour generously, you want there to be a little pool on the bottom of plate. Season with Kosher salt, pepper, garlic + onion powder, Cajun and paprika. Turn over and repeat. Add some more season to the little pool. For 3, cook 5-7mins per side. If you want crisp skin, have the oven broiler already on and place for 30 seconds. Split that badboy open, take the olive oil and seasoning liquid goodness and place on your tater. Don't even need butter. TRY IT 🙂 .... It's love

OH MY GOODNESS!!! 🎉 I had to come back and leave a review on my steak. I did everything you said. I watched the whole tutorial and took notes. Let me tell you! I have had a porterhouse and filet mignon, both were awesome. Well... I cut into the flat iron steak and I couldn't believe the taste, texture, flavor, and the softness of the meat. I've always been told the tenderloin is the most tender. I differ to that, cuz of your cooking skills. I was speechless. Thank you! Just the information you gave us, oh boy! I don't even know how to show my gratitude. Thank you!!! By the way, how would a flat iron steak do on the grill? Would it dry out? Have you tried it? Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!!! 🌷💖👍👍🤗🎉🎉👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥳

Hey Shotgun Red, try a Chuck Tender Steak (try to get a thick cut from a meat department), or a Chuck Eye Steak. Just like a tenderloin cut (Fillet Mignon), but has much more marbling (even at usda choice)!

@@CookingwithShotgunRed I cooked up my flat iron steak according to your video. My first time making it (or any steak). I ended up with a tasty steak. I think I cooked it on high for too long BUT it still wasn't greatly overcooked - just well done (where as I like it more medium - I'll know better next time). It was good and now I know i can cook it! Bonus: steak dinners for four nights! Thank you!

In honor of Steve's passing I'm going to tell you a big chef's secret and flat iron steak......unpackage the steak early in the morning and do this: are you ready? It's the most simple thing in the world but turns this steak into the best grilled piece of beef...... Get a bottle of Wish Bone Italian salad dressing, just the regular flavor one, take the steak and pound it out on a cutting board just to get a consistent thickness, that will also help with tenderness... Once you do that take a gallon size ziploc bag and place the steak into the bag and take the Italian dressing and cover that steak very well with the dressing, be generous. Massage the dressing into the steak with your hands after you get the extra air out of the bag and seal it. Put that into the fridge for at least 6 hours. I always take it out half way thru and massage the meat thru the bag and put it back into the fridge. Take it out of the fridge an hour before grilling(never grill a steak cold, get it to room temp!).... Do not, I repeat, do not wipe off the excess dressing, just take it out of the bag and place it on a plate.... Let it come to room temperature and then use coarse kosher salt to season and then grill.... Do not over cook! Take off the grill and cut against the grain at an angle into THIN slices and you will just die at how amazing this recipe is. You're welcome 😝😝😝😝

Looks Great! Great Job sharing. One concern is Searing using the non stick pan. Anything over 500F with a non stick pan will contaminate your food with toxic Teflon Poisoning. Research the topic, its it a serious issue. Stick with your cast iron for searing.
