Toad in the hole is savory sausage baked in a Yorkshire pudding style batter. The egg inside a piece of toasted bread has several names; I’ve most often heard it called egg in a basket.

Hey Sonny could you please make a video explaining things like: - why is salt and pepper considered the basic seasoning for a lot of dishes? - How do you know which herbs go together with which dish - beef steak and thyme, lamb and rosemary etc etc?
@xalat6277
@xalat6277 Жыл бұрын
The first one is pretty easy to explain. The flavour profile of salt and to an extent pepper goes with pretty much every dish, I'm also pretty sure there is an evolutional reason for this, the body always needing salts and minerals. The second one comes from experience, I'm sure there also isn't a simple answer to that question, because thyme doesn't necessarily go together perfect with every type of beef, or oregano/basil with every type of tomato soup. It's more about personal preference

Number 2 is the BOMB, if done right !! We do it for years, for generations. First and foremost; it's the feta cheese, crumbled feta cheese goes into the mixture, not mozzarella. No sriracha, no ketchup, no hot sauce, no nothing on top after it's done. If you really want some heat, you can add some red pepper flakes into the egg mixture. As for the greens; we usually use parsley and green onions only when parsley is not available; but it shouldn't hurt using both in moderation (even might be better). Then we fry it in a pan with more oil in it. Not like deep fry but definitely in more oil than I can see here.

“Texas one-eyes! I have not heard that one, but my southern friends/family call the cored bread with an egg in the center a “One-eyed Susan”. Not sure why. However, the premise was a breakfast toast with the center removed, an over-easy egg in the center. The cored bread would be used to dip into the yoke. Sometimes the center piece was further toasted and eaten with navy beans. I think it was popularized as a campfire/traveling ranchers breakfast (hence the Texas name you were taught) but has been adopted in other areas of the American southeast with a bunch of other names!

@AnotherGenericChannel

I can appreciate the simplicity and laziness of the first 3, my main "need to eat and don't have time or energy" food is tossing an egg into a pan and seasoning it, putting a medium sized tortilla on top and pressing it down and rotating it to get the egg spread out under it evenly to it will fuse to the tortilla as it cooks. Flip it when it is mostly cooked and add cheese, hot sauce, herbs and what ever other seasoning and stuff I want. Fold it in half and brown it on both sides as much as I can without burning it so it comes out like an egg and cheese quesadilla. Started out trying to make something similar to a few different Indian and middle eastern foods I have eaten with easy to get ingredients and ended up with an egg and cheese taco. Experimenting years ago I made something like the last one with bread and eggs and metallic wet dog would be a good description, especially if there is too much moisture in it when you start. Didn't experiment with that to much, with a texture somewhere between Stuffing and Short Cake mixed with being able to get under and over cooked egg flavors at once in a single dish killed that one for me.

The last one looked like a french toast omelette to me, which sounds awesome. I don't know about turning it into a pizza, but if you play around with the ratios and the spice/topping mix it could be amazing. Use stale bread (yours was too soft so it added nothing), add just a bit of cinnamon sugar for the french-toastness, and whatever spice mix you want. I think a Mexican blend would go well with the cinnamon. Mix it all up and put it in the pan for a couple minutes - I'm not sure whether to pull it in like an omelette here or just let it sit, but I'm gonna say to start off pulling it in as it cooks like an omelette. Then when everything is set together just enough, which ought to be pretty early since you have fairly large chunks of stale bread in it, you flip the whole thing (as much as possible, it may not be in one piece). Put some shredded cheese and whatever toppings you want on it and go under the broiler for maybe like a minute. This is all just theorycrafting, making it up while I'm watching, so I have no idea how this will actually turn out. But it's making me hungry.
@jameshill2450
@jameshill2450 Жыл бұрын
@@Monochromatic_Spider That's what I mean about playing around with ratios, you need to figure out how much egg to bread to topping will make it work. The ideal result in my mind would be like bits of french toast very loosely held together with a thin bit of omelette or scrambled egg or whatever you want to call it. I wouldn't put tomato on mine at all, I don't really like the "pizza" angle. I'd probably go with a whole different set of spices and toppings. But the concept is very interesting and could go all kinds of directions.

So a lot of millennials weren’t taught and later learned as they adulted. Now microwave, instant pots, air fryers are top.
