50 cents was the price of making each portion of cheap grilled cheese, and $50 was the total price of all the money I spent on the fancy grilled cheese ingredients just to clarify. The actual price of the fancy grilled cheese was around $22 or so which is still very expensive.

@Ryan Trot Buy some higher quality Ramen noodles and cook them in barely enough water to get them to Al Dente. Then, after you broil the grilled cheese, put the flavor packets into the now devoid of liquid, yummy, sticky Ramen. Put the Ramen on the grilled cheese and close 'er up. I promise this is so delicious that your nuts may fly off. Happened to my cousin.

We only ever had plastic cheese in grilled cheese sandwiches. When I got on my own, I used cheddar. Have to admit, I still like the plastic grilled cheese sometimes 😄 I have never understood why folks use mayo 🤢 and I love mayo!! Going to have to make one with some clarified butter! I need to make bread today so I see a grilled cheese in my near future! Edited to add: I just saw the garlic comment. Yes!! Garlic butter on the bread, mozz and a sprinkle of parmigiana shreds for the cheese. I whip up a bit of dipping sauce with tomato paste, water, and a few herbs. Yum!!!

for American Cheese peeps, make sure not to get singles. Get the "deluxe" version its often called. If you look at the package it'll say 'pasteurized processed cheese', while non-delux singles style will say 'pasteurized processed cheese food(or product)'. they're still sliced but come in more of a brick that you just gently peel apart. I would also suggest Dude do the American Cheese portion of this test again and see how much better it is. yeah it costs a tiny bit more, but its actually real cheese. Trust me on this one AC Team

100%. American singles are sort of a cheese by-product. Buying deluxe or deli American cheese is totally different, and infinitely better. Proper American cheese is also a great base for cheese dip. The "cheese food" singles are so bad they may as well be 3D printed out of soybean oil. On a separate note, some cheddars make a sub-par grilled cheese while others are great.

I avoid that soggy mushy toast by using less mayo. One of the reasons to use mayo is you don't have to wait for it to get soft, and you don't have to separate the fat. You also don't have to use more than half of a tablespoon per slice like you did there. I would have scraped some of that off and used it on the other slice. You kind of loaded the box for a soggy smelly piece of bread there, but like you say, do it your way. I guess I should also mention how much I love mayo. I grew up pretty low on the income scale and was basically raised on my favorite food, a mayonnaise sandwich which was just that cheap white bread in fact day-old untoasted bread from the Wholesome store and a little mayonnaise. It has probably been close to 40 years or more since I have had one, but man I loved them back when I was a little kid. Great video. Those were some good-looking sandwiches. I giveth thee the thumbs up. 👍

Mayo is great for a grilled cheese, you used way too much mayo, and didn't blot it dry after. Use less mayo and put it onto a paper tower after, it gives it a great tangy flavor. The fact it takes more time to get brown is good if you're making a grilled cheese with a shit load of cheese, or meats inside it, and don't want a cold center.

I’ve never even heard of using mayo on the outside. However, the first time my wife made me a grilled cheese (yes, with plastic cheese like a red-blooded American 🇺🇸 🦅) she used Miracle Whip on the inside. You know, like a regular sandwich. I gotta tell ya, it changed my life! And after 20 years of marriage I’ve never looked back. And for the past few years we’ve been using garlic butter on the exterior and it makes a world of difference. I’m telling you now, garlic butter outside, a thin spread of Miracle Whip inside with some plastic cheese, and you’ve got yourself a grilled cheese of which you can be proud.

So with the mayo thing. It needs WAY WAY less to be applied. And if you follow the method 'not another cooking show' uses. Where you toast both sides. Then add the butter on your outer side to finish, and the mayo is used very lightly. You'll find it doesn't have the issues you mentioned. Not saying you're wrong cause you're the goat. but if you wanna make the mayo work it can if you follow that method so you're using less just for browning the already toasted bread. Either way I'm taking the butter on mine lol
