@CapnShades7 жыл бұрын
Basically what Ben said. More content, more characters, more stars, it's just all-around more complete. I grew up with it so getting used to 8 directions wasn't so bad, but not having played it in years, it was a bit wonky to get back into at first.
@Crazykidthree337 жыл бұрын
Eh, it differs from person to person. I personally like it, but enough people are impartial or dislike it to make it impossible to say it's the best version. It's kinda like a "What if Mario 64 had..." kind of thing. If you're ever considering getting it, I recommend watching a bit of gameplay first since you can usually tell if you'll like it or not just by looking at it.

Okay so I'm fairly certain the level *is* what changes sizes, however that's probably due to ease on hardware and the design process. Big/Small is revisited many times in Mario before and after this point, often utilizing mushrooms. This solidifies the idea of the connection to Alice in Wonderland, or at least Alice in Wonderland syndrome, a side effect of the red mushroom in Mario and other games (Amanita Muscaria, aka Fly Agaric) in which the victim feels their sense of size to be skewed drastically. So from a level design perspective Jeff is right, but from a thematic perspective, PBG is right. The More You Know~

As a reminder, these are toxic, and though they're relatively low toxicity, the aforementioned side effect is exceedingly dangerous, so I would advise against consumption outside of emergencies.

@seththetactician67127 жыл бұрын
PBG is definitely right. Especially since the way that Jeff is saying it messes it up. He keeps saying "YOU have to become small/big" but if he's saying the world is the thing changing he needs to say "you need to make the world small/big" but either way I'm pretty sure it's Mario and Luigi that are changing. Jeff also brought up the point of the Mario 3 stage but in that the enemies and stuff are big but you're still the same size as you are in other levels (if I remember correctly) not small so it's different imo.

the size of the world is changing. you can tell because the goombas drop a normal coin no matter what in tiny island, but if you ground pound the big goombas in huge island, they drop blue coins. this indicates a change in the goombas and therfore the island

I find it easier to start on the tiny island because it's easier to adjust. It's easier to find where you need to go before switching to the huge island.

Since the Goomba's and other enemies don't use the warp pipes in the world they do not change in size. So their size is the exact same when Mario and Luigi are in either Tiny or Huge world. Which means Mario and Luigi must be the ones changing size and not the world around them. The world can't use it's own warp pipes, it would implode.

I think Jeff is right when it comes to the world being two different dimensions because you can collect the coins in the big dimension the coins in the small detention are still there as if they were never collected. They are closely interconnected though, as destroying the top of the mountain in the big dimension will carry over into the small dimension. --- But I think Austin is more correct when he says they start out small. Regardless of your original height, big or small are terms that compare yourself with objects, not your actual height. You are small because you entered the painting small. You are big if you entered the painting big. Mario's size most likely stays the same, as warp pipes normally keep his size in tact, furthermore providing evidence of the dual dimension theory. However, in Mario & Luigi Bowsers Inside Story, the pipes DID shrink the Mario Bros to cell size to reenter Bowser's Body. So the pipes could be actually shrinking them, but that would mean that the coins and enemies that spawn when you switch appear on their own.

@chigginheadD7 жыл бұрын
Technically both are actually right (and not in different ways either i.e. Jeff right about how it was programmed vs PBG being right about the intent). What Jeff is saying is that the world is changing size; this is absolutely true as the name of the level is "Tiny-Huge ISLAND" with a picture of two goombas, one large and one small. Mario and Luigi are technically not changing size. It is all about the frame of reference. And this is how PBG can be interpreted as right as well as what he is saying could be understood as small and large IN COMPARISON to the world. But in terms of what the game is trying to say, with the aforementioned level name and portrait, is that it is the island that is changing size, not Mario and Luigi.
