Great scene. And thank you for your service Mr. James. Three and a half years in the South Pacific during WWII. Silver Star, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts. 96 years old when he passed in 2017. RIP Carr.

He was my favorite character actor, ever! This movie, Live and Let Die, Silver Streak, Superman 2, Eight Men Out, and Lone Star were his best. Harry Dean Stanton came in a close second.

I didn’t get that scene at first. Actually, he was telling them you get two clean sheets in your initial issue. The bottom one you sleep on and the top one you cover with. Every Saturday you get a new clean sheet and the top sheet you were using becomes the bottom one and you turn the bottom one into the laundry boy.

@@patrickc3419 I recently watched a film on HBO called OG. It stars Jeffrey Wright as a guy who served decades after a murder and was getting out soon. I been to prison for 13 months and this film captured the reality of it better than any. Every minor detail, even using a real active prison and real inmates for filming.

Cool Hand Luke and The Shawshank Redemption are awesome prison flicks, it's hard for me to pick which one I love the most. Escape from Alcatraz is a pretty cool flick as well.

The Great Escape, Von Ryan's Express,and Bridge Over The River Kwai must be up there too for me . All prison films and definitely classics!!!. None of today's films come anywhere near them

The sheets are common sense. The cleanest sheet goes on top the dirtiest would be the bottom, you turn that in, rotate the old top one to the bottom. Simple! I saw this at the Mayfair theater in Baltimore, 1967. Awesome movie.

To reiterate, he said “you get two sheets”, not “you get two sheets every Saturday”. Every Saturday the sheet you sleep on gets turned in, the one you cover with becomes the one you sleep on, and you get a fresh top sheet on Saturday.

I absolutely loved Clifton James and thought he was one of the most underrated character actors! Besides this movie, playing fat sheriffs in Live and Let Die, Silver Streak, and Superman 2, the stingy owner of the White Sox in Eight Men Out, and my favorite role of all was in Lone Star as Sheriff Hollis, who’s a surprising character in the end.

Clifton James was a decorated World War II United States Army veteran. He served as an infantry platoon sergeant with Co. "A" 163rd Infantry, 41st Division. He served forty-two months in the South Pacific from January 1942 until August 1945. His decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts.[3]

The Good News: A month or two working with this crew and I might get back to something at least vaguely resembling decent physical shape. Maybe...just maybe...I could get to the Point where I could look at myself in the mirror and NOT want to burst out crying...thinking about the shape I USED to be in. Pretty much a lock that I'd at least get my weight back down into only three digits. The bad news: I'd probably wind up being killed by one of the inmates for looking at him the wrong way or some other perceived slight. "Cool Hand Luke" and "The Shawshank Redemption"...the two movies I've seen that best demonstrate the indomitability of the Human Spirit. Rest in Peace, Mr. Newman...and know that you left a Phenomenally Positive Impact on our World. God Bless You , Sir!
