In this video, you'll learn how to create these unique organic shape cells earrings using a fun texture technique. This technique requires a texture with all points of connection, and it is recommended to use EZ960® Sterling Silver Clay for the added strength and flexibility. After the earrings are made and fired, Karen shows how to solder on the earrings posts.

Love these earrings. It will be fun to make the same style with different patterns. I would love to see someone wearing them at the end of the video. Thanks for great videos!

Another amazing tutorial by the talented Karen! I do have a question....do you put some sort of release on the tile prior to scraping the clay?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Whenever I’m drying clay in something prior to removing it, I find I don’t need to use release, so I skipped the CoolSlip for that step! It’s also easier to get the clay to lay down into the low areas when there isn’t a release agent on the texture. Thanks for asking!

These are gorgeous, Karen! Easily one of your nicest pieces. Is it possible to torch fire them, though? Or to use a beehive kiln?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, these can be fired in the beehive, but cannot be torch fired, unless you are using torch fireable clay. Hope this helps!

Love this! Do you have any recommendations for similar textures to use to make the lacy parts - I've been looking at the website, but can't really see one as well suited as the leaves, and wanted something watery! Thanks

Thank you so much for this video, this really gives me wild imagination to work with :) Quick question, how to use the remaining excess clay, can we just add water and keep it moist?

Hello, we recommend keeping leftover metal clay in a hydrator, which will keep it workable for months on end. You can find the hydrator here: cooltools.us/collections/clay-hydrator/products/cool-tools-clay-hydrator Thanks for watching!

How long do you leave them on the hotplate to dry?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica, it depends on the thickness or size of the piece. For this particular piece, 15 - 20 minutes would be plenty. Hope this helps!

Those are very nice, if you were going to sell a pair of earings like that, what would you charge?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Pricing for me is always a reflection of how long the piece took to make alongside the material cost. Since I wasn’t making these to sell, I’m not sure exactly how long they took to make, so I don’t know how much I would sell them for. One of the aspects I really liked about this project is that the material cost is relatively low since these earrings use substantially less material than something solid.

@@cooltoolsvideos Thanks, I was just curious as I could see a lot of work going into this, although the video showed a lot I'm sure it didn't show all that went into it right? I'm kinda looking for a hobby as I am pretty much house bound and on oxygen now, but I just don't know if I would have the patience to merritt buying all the equipment. I might start off with something simpler and see how it goes , my wife would love those though. Thanks so much fo taking time for these videos their very encouraging.

@wendyannh 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidgcook2502 PMC really requires very little equipment, and most of what you see here can be entirely successfully mimicked by common household and office supply items. You don’t even need the mug warmer; just let your pieces dry for a few hours or overnight out in the air. Just use whatever little dish you want for water, buy cheapie brushes at the craft store, a pack of playing cards glued together into the various multi card thicknesses instead of the plastic frames, and use plastic report covers to work instead of the teflon pads. And skip the Cool Slip. Olive or other vegetable oil works perfectly well and is vastly cheaper and more readily available. You can buy little spray bottles for next to nothing. It’s *super* critical that you don’t use a butane torch while you are on the oxygen, though. You will want to preferably leave it in another room altogether before you turn your torch on, but at the minimum, turn the tank off. Torch firing only takes a few minutes, so you wouldn’t be off the oxygen for any appreciable length of time to do it.

Can they be polished in a tumbler? Can they be enameled?
@cooltoolsvideos

Hi Sam, because these are so delicate, we would not recommend polishing in a tumbler. If using fine silver, yes you can enamel them. Hope this helps!

Did you have to spray the texture sheet before scraping the clay into it? If not, doesn’t the clay stick to it?
@cynthiaenright3938
@cynthiaenright3938 Жыл бұрын
I had better success when I applied some Cool Slip on the texture sheet. But this part is a lot harder than it looks on the video. I am a beginner, so you might not struggle as much as I did.
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos Жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah, usually you would spray CoolSlip when rolling clay over a texture, but when using this technique, CoolSlip is not necessary as you are allowing the clay to dry before taking it off the texture. Hope this helps!
