I’m attempting a a flush set ring right now (I know 2 days before Christmas) but your video inspired me to use my small “nail molds” and make one secured by hearts as well. I had planned to make investment inserts for the ring but I’m going to set it on the shelf and hope for the best. I have pmcconnections kiln with artclay settings but not for A.C. 960. Since you didn’t mention ramping up the temps I. Just going to place the rings on the shelf and set at 1675 - fingers crossed. Great tutorial thanks!😊

I'm looking into buying some silver clay and making my own ring and this is the only tutorials that I can see that actually explain clearly but I'm going with the torch method

Hi Jeremy, thank you for the kind words. If you're going to be torch firing, please note that sterling silver clays (such as EZ960 used in this video) cannot be torch fired. Only fine silver clays, such as Phoenix Torch Fireable Clay and Art Clay Silver can be torch fired.

Great video! I see you started with a size 9 ring mandrel. What size was your ring after firing? I’ve had difficulty figuring out how to gauge my ring size at the start to be what I want it to end up as. I know the shrinkage is pretty low, but what’s the best guide for working with this specific clay?

Hi Deitra, this fired and shrinked to a size 7. When using EZ960, you always want to size two sizes up to account for the shrinkage. Thanks for watching!

Hello, a snake can be made in seconds by using a snake maker or acrylic work surface. It's as easy as rolling clay back and forth between the acrylic and a work surface. Hope this helps!

If you do this in a microwave kiln how long would you have to bake it ?

Hello, we do not recommend microwave kilns for firing metal clay. They. can technically be used for fine silver clay, but only flat and very small pieces. This project is sterling silver, and dimensional which would not work in a microwave kiln. Hope this helps.

Hello, yes you can use any ring sizer for this ring.

Hi Karen, Art Clay Silver can be fired with a kiln. It is alway recommended to create rings with sterling silver clay as it is a stronger metal than fine silver. Sterling silver clays do require a kiln. We have table top kilns available if you are interested!

Why didn't you put punch for stone at seam?

Hi Sharon, Because I want my seam to be as strong as possible, I want to leave as much of it as I can intact. By drilling a hole to set the stone there I’d be removing material that’s supporting that connection, weakening that joint.
