2011 VW Routan TCC kills engine

Looks like something I may be able to tackle at home. Thanks for posting this video up! My Routan nearly left my wife and I stranded about 70 miles from home in the middle of nowhere amidst a torrential rain storm. Shut off when I came to a stop and each time I tried to put it in gear. Managed to shift it into manual (+/-) while rolling forward slightly and got us home (with some careful neutral/D shifting at stops). Parts are on order.

Lovely video and Lot of explanation. i am stuck in that removal of that bolts of exhaust. front and back side .i am doing this at my home on jacks. the solenoid cover is kind of stuck without removing the exhaust pipe. do we need to buy special tools. i took this as challenge when VW dealers quoted me 6000 as per protocol. Please share some info. i fell in love with my car and wanted to keep it for long. hate to loose this for the solenoid repair. Thanks

exhaust bolts sometimes take heat to remove. Mechanics become experts with torch and removing seized exhaust bolts. Especially northern cars where lots of salt is used on the roads. Sorry I don't remember the exact repair on this car. Its been years and I have over 180 videos.

62TE trans comes lots of Dodge products as well, so you can fix those as well..

Quick question do I have a 2011 Routan my engine light came on so I took it to a auto zone to get code read it came back P0740 torque converter clutch solenoid circuit. So I took to transmission place . He Said I needed a new transmission. Spent over an hour there waiting for estimate. Anyhow ended up leaving and drove of about 10 min and light went off by itself. Have had no problems with car doing any struggling to drive or turning off. Maybe a light hesitation at stop light after driving 8hrs. But nothing. Any advice please PLEASE HELP ME

Why would you change the solenoid ??

I dont understand the question. Did you watch the video? The engine was dying when placed in gear. The solenoid was stuck leaving TCC stuck on. Its all there in the video.

Also if I put my van into neutral when it trying to do this it calms down and doesn't stall

Happened to me also went through 3 alternators and a new battery. Finally stopped when we changed the battery terminal wires

I do have to drain the transmission fluid for this right?

fluid is in the pan, but your removing the "sidecover" to access the solenoid. So you dont have to "drain" it, but I would pull the bottom pan to inspect and break open the filter. Even if you dont do that you'll probably loose a little fluid if even if you dont pull the pan, so you'll need to do the check procedure and have the dipstick "tool" anyway.

Don't know. Been too long. But it was thousands cheaper than a replacement trans. Knowledge and correct diagnosis really helps to save money on repair cost.

Nope, these are called Lancia Voyager in Europe, VW didn't have in Europe at all and Touran is a completely different, much smaller car - it's very easy to get confused though :)

Not really a POS but Toyota's aint bad. I got a video on a Prius that made it to approx 150 with zero repairs except a 12v battery replacement. That just amazes me.
